I have mentioned how my lilies are way behind blooming at Easter time. The lilies that you see blooming at Easter are forced to bloom. I'm not sure how they do that but it's what is done so that there are beautiful lilies to be had at Easter.
Mine are usually a good month or more from blooming when Easter rolls around. I have 5 small flower beds around my house and I believe all but one have lilies growing in them. They spread like wild fire.
This shot of my orange lilies was taken a few years ago, so far this season they have not bloomed yet. This is one bunch of lilies and it produces like crazy. As you can see I have 5 flowers blooming. If you look closely you can see another 8 blooms that are not ready yet. So 13 flowers on one bunch. I love the orange ones. I also have light pink, a slightly darker pink and white. I think I also have yellow but I can't say for sure.

It must be, perhaps they don't let them be in the dark so that forces the blooming.

I never thought of that @fishtiger58 of course I've only been in the greenhouses at the nursery and as for how they run it I haven't a clue, but it's where I'd buy a bush then of all the rotten luck the poor thing would die after I planted it.

@rebelann I know about that. We have probably bought and planted 10 blueberry bushes and can't get them to grow ever.

@Drosophila I am always more drawn to deep rich colors as opposed to pastels where my flowers are concerned.

Those are very pretty, Diane. I planted some lily bulbs this year, I think and I have one lone lily plant that I should transplant elsewhere because when it finally blooms it's hidden by my ornamental grass. i planted about six boxes of bulbs this past December and I'm looking forward to seeing what comes up and where as I don't remember exactly where I planted everything.
I'll be having day lilies later on and I also have the orange variety of those too, unless I didn't find the correct plant that was weeded out incorrectly. Time will tell.

@fishtiger58 Good that they spread slower. If you ever get violets make sure they are well contained for they will spread over the summer months in the same year and are hard to eradicate once they take possession of 'their' territory. The lilly I had near my porch never spread in five years, well maybe it had one or two babies right by it's side now that I think of it, but that's about all. If it stays nearby, I'll be fine with that, if they creep across the lawn, I'll spank them.
The orange one almost looks three-D it's so vibrant. I'll be taking pictures of mine once they bloom and with the extra space I now have, I hope to finally get seeds down that I purchased years back and see if any of those still germinate.

@MarshaMusselman I do like the orange ones the best. The deep red are very nice as well. We have had really good luck with the lilies they are spreading, every year we have more.

I have day lilies as well, but I don't care as much for them as just the regular lilies. We have the same problem remembering where we plant bulbs. Thanks these are my favorite of all the lilies we have. We also have light pink, red, a darker pink, and white. I think we may have yellow as well. They will spread they just take some time to do that. They spread slower than the day lilies do.

I have day lilies I'm waiting to see bloom. Someone gave them to me a few years ago and they've done well. Usually when someone gives me flowers they do well, when I get them and plant them, they don't. Now you figure that one out.

@fishtiger58 So far mine haven't spread, but I'm wondering if that's because the area I put them has limited space.

I have lilies and day lilies, they are different. Day lilies spread quicker than regular lilies.

These are actually just your basic lily, the day lilies are smaller with more foliage.

I need to buy some to plant along the fence line. I had one last year but 'someone' used the mower a little too close...

I kind of thought that's how they force them to bloom. My lilies do very well here and spread nicely.

My neighbor has beautiful lilies planted around her deck but so far they haven't bloomed yet either. Guess Easter came a little too early this year

Most lilies growing outside are not ready for Easter when it rolls around.

I am done with winter too. We had temps almost into the 70's yesterday and the 50's today. I hope we don't get anymore freezing weather as many of my flowers are now blooming. Thanks so glad you like my flowers

Yes I think that has to be it, not letting them be in the dark. The light makes them bloom. Thanks so much glad you like them.

What beautiful lilies! I really love the orange ones too. I had a huge patch of them in front of the kitchen at my previous home. We don't get enough sun here in our teensy yard to grow a garden, so I really miss my flower beds and my veggie garden.
