My young friend the neighbor kid (aged 7 1/2) is still off in Europe, visiting his grandparents and other relatives. His mom told me today that he's on his way from Germany to Croatia. He helped me stain my outside table and chairs, and they're almost done. As of today, there is only only slat left on the table to do. My question: Do I finish up that last slat? Or wait until he gets home and let him do it? He might be touched if I leave the last slat for him.

I think it's best you leave that last slat for him. When I was a kid i easily got disappointed with similar situations.

I just want to say I am offended and how could you do such a thing. Really, I wanted to say, that is what I call Teaching and leading by example. Great job brother. It looks like a table that will make it through some battles now.

I guess it depends on whether you plan to use the table. I would probably do it myself.

@TheHorse I would be more concerned that it might get a drink ring!! But I think you already know you want him to finish it lol

Yup, I'd leave it for him to finish @TheHorse . A lesson in all things (chores) must be completed.

Depends on when he is back. What a lovely thing of him to do for you.

I think you should wait, if you're not in any kind of hurry to have it done.

If you think he would be touched by your waiting I would wait. Kids need to know they are important I think. The more we can do that for them the better.

If I could wait I would. I think it would please him and inspire him.

It would be a nice gesture that would probably make his day.
