The lawn tractor is working but they messed it up!

We bought the new cub in late May - you've read about the problems we had with it stalling out. We took it back and they had it for a week and couldn't duplicate the problem - we picked it up. As soon as my husband mowed for 15 minutes it shut off and continued to shut off many more times. He called the dealer.
The Cub Cadet dealership owner came here personally August 5th and picked up our tractor to take it back for repair. He told them we would be on vacation and would contact them when we got back.
This past Monday - August 15th - we were told they found the problem and fixed it - that it took a lot of work to find it. If they had listened to my husband in the first place it would have taken them ten minutes to fix it. He told them by process of elimination there was something preventing the flow of gas to the engine. It did shut down for them when they ran it at the shop.
Anyway, they wanted to keep it a few more days and run the 'heck' out of it just to make sure. The problem was the fuel line was kinked and that's why it would shut down. OK, they were 'too busy' to get to it the next day - we finally got the tractor back (they delivered it for a cost). Before it came off the trailor my husband pointed out the giant scratch - it's down to the primer in two places and a nice long scratch that looks to be about 10 inches long.
The guy sort of poo-pooed it and said he hadn't noticed it before. Sure...like I believe that. I was very surprised my husband didn't blow a gasket, but he was so happy to get it back - our grass was a foot high at that point!
I don't let things rest, this isn't a cheap toy, it's an expensive piece of equipment, brand new only 19 hours on it and about 6 of those hours the dealer put on testing it.
He called them the next day because when it left here it has a brand new pre-air filter on it that my husband bought. That filter wasn't on it when it came home. He also told them about the bolts that keep coming out that hold the seat down. They are to mail us a new filter and touch-up paint. He told the guy if he can't fix the damage and make it look good we're taking it to a car place to have it painted and send them the bill.
This whole thing has turned into one big disaster. We bought the tractor from this particular place because they said we would get good service and never be without our tractor for more than a week.
It seems like whatever we do we can't win.
Photo is mine of the damage.

I can see why you and husband would be upset. That is terrible customer service and not acceptable. That tractor should have never been returned to you damaged like that. They knew it was damaged and they tried to pass it off that way hoping you wouldn't say anything. I hope they do the right thing!

Thanks, we hope so too. But if they don't I guess I'll have to report them to the BBB.

Yup, and we're stuck with them for warranty work. Hopefully things will go smooth from now on.

@Jessicalynnt The problem with that is since its under warranty we have to take it there for any repairs...not like a car you can take to any dealership. So he can't cut off his nose,,,,,

It's just one thing after another for you isn't it? First the fridge ordeal while you were on vacation and now this. What's next? It usually goes in threes. Hope the cub gets back to good order soon.

Thanks Anne Marie - it's not nice when people don't value things that belong to others.

There are things my husband can fix but this machine is under warranty so if he messes with it that voids the warranty. He's been a mechanic since he was 17 so engines etc. are in his blood and he's lost lots of blood working on them too LOL.

@AbbyGreenhill Certainly you wouldn't want to void the warranty.

@AbbyGreenhill That is unbelievable. I wonder how they manage to stay in business with such poor service. When you buy new it should look new until you damage it, not them.

Someone wasn't careful...that's for sure. We were told one of the employees took it home to mow with it - that's probably when it happened.

@AbbyGreenhill I would be furious too, I remember when at the garage they scratched the Mercedes of my husband, they only had to change the oil.
My husband was more than furious.

@LadyDuck When the tractor finally got home and the grass was a foot high - i think his initial reaction even with the damage was - Oh, I can cut the grass!

Can't believe that you're having trouble with that brand new mower. Guess they lied about their great customer service

They sure did lie. He's run it and even mowed wet grass and so far so good....now we just have to get it 'looking' better.

I would be upset if that happened to me too. It is like you said that was not a toy or cheap type of equipment. Talk is cheap a lot of the time. I trust people to easy, and at times I have got burnt. I do make fewer mistakes, but it does still hurt when people do not seem to be trustworthy. I did always enjoy sitting on my grandfather's lap and trying to drive his old tractor.

It's all fixed and looks as good as new and it runs properly so all is well.
