So, while the internet was down

While the internet was down I defrosted and cleaned and organized my deep freeze.
Actually I was going to do that anyway, because it had ice build up in the bottom and it was making these awful sounds.
So as I loaded stuff into cooler chests and inspected everything, I started throwing things into the crock pot. I had veggies, both from meals and from just opening a bag for a little bit and putting it back. I had a huge bag of battered okra that had melted and stuck together at one point, so I did not think I could thaw it in a way to fry it like it was supposed to be, but I knew it would make a nice thick soup. I had some small containers of chicken broth and a half jar of spaghetti sauce.
I cut up a pepper or two and some garlic. I had a container of seasoned chicken meat with mushrooms in my small freezer so it went in as well.
So, I have a clean and organized deep freeze and a delicious, hearty soup for yesterday and today. I also have a lot of empty plastic containers to get washed up.

Yes I have resisted shopping until I knew what I have and I did find a few surprises.

@GardenGerty I have found some jars and sauces in the refrigerator that had to be thrown in the garbage. My husband buys too many things.

It sounds as if there are many of us who needed to do this. It does feel good. I want to get several things done this weekend.

@YesWay It is so easy to sit by my computer and do nothing else at all, but it is not good for me or for my family.

It was true "pot luck" as whatever I put in, I was lucky it turned out so well.

Soup is amazing for using up veggies. The breaded okra provided thickening so this was a stick to your ribs meal.

Last night I did not have internet here in San Fernando. The internet here does not work properly all day and night as at home. I did not like it at all.

Waste not, want not, that is an excellent use for your frozen items that needed to be used.

These hearty soups are healthy for us as well. I always save all the juices and little bits of veggies for this purpose. I had cooked ten pounds of chicken last week so I had the meat all ready and frozen waiting to go into soup. We are having a cool down and it is just right for soup.

that sounds like a nice mix in your soup.... we are just getting to the stage where we will have to do ours... we are eating from the freezer... so we will have some empty pots to wash up too... before starting the whole process over again.... lol....

I really hate to waste food, and my crockpots are my good friend. They make meals so much easier.

@GardenGerty I've managed to cook my way around one of those gizmos. We are making more vegie soups these days but so far the stock pot is holding up to its work.

There were a few surprises. If we were ever to have a crisis and could not buy food we would still eat for quite a while.

It is, now I must wash up all the containers I emptied to make my soup. It is a good thing that I now know what we have to eat.

Good job! I guess there are plus sides to the internet not working. Other things get done, who knew? No kidding, that is awesome you got all that done.

I often feel that I do not work hard enough. I guess writing stuff down here lets me see what has been done.
