I just got the sweetest phone call!

I thought it would be my friend, The Chipmunk, who directs the preschool where I'm teaching this week. We finally went hiking this past weekend and had a good time. But it was my 7 1/2-year-old neighbor kid buddy, wishing me a Happy Something-or-Another. I can't believe he and his mom remembered! We chatted for a bit, and then I told him maybe we could work on the table we harvested from near the dumpster tomorrow. He thought that was a good idea. I'll attach a photo of my friend and the table before we started working on it. As I think I mentioned, my Filipino friend, who is older, wiser, and knows more about wood than I do, thinks the table is from the 1940s or 1950s. My young friend is from 2008, as is my Nissan Xterra.

Is it your birthday? Many happy returns if it is. That table is about my vintage and looks about as worn. Fancy having been born in 2008. It always sounds so odd for some reason - to be so young. There are dozens of doctors out there who weren't even born when we got married. I'll be weeping into my green tea in a minute.

@TheHorse I recently asked a policeman if his mummy knew he was out playing cops and robbers. You are right there policemen and Doctors look about 14 years old! Frightening!

@TheHorse Did you mean girl guides? And how sexist is that - on my part? Presuming all nurses are female? :(

I was surprised too. aybe the owner didn't think it through and thought the words written on its top made it "gone forever."

We're not allowed to mention birthdays here. I had a Something-or-Another. It was fun to hear his voice on the phone. Usually it's his mom, telling me he's in trouble because he stayed longer than he said he would. Yep, I'm a Virgo.

Higher quality. More attention to detail. This thing is made (so far as I can tell) of solid wood!

I might have left it as is, or just oiled it. But someone wrote some bad words on the top (misspelled) in Sharpee.

"It's all about the moments," a friend of a friend said. My buddy and I will remember our "project" for as long as we're around. I reckon' he'll carry it forward after I'm chatting with St. Francis. And maybe he'll show a kid how to refinish wood surfaces.

We're mostly doing the top, which had some bad words written on it (and misspelled). The rest of it we'll just oil with steel wool.

I love the table. Real wood? I'm sure it must be. That is a nice find. What are you going to do to it? Happy Happy. I thought you would be to vain to mention it. LOL

@TheHorse I love the finish of the wood, the design of the table not so much. The pipe design doesn't go with the design of the wood. It's a little too rustic. LOL

It appears to be not only real, but solid wood! My young friend and I are finishing the top, but probably just oiling the rest. My wood-knowledgeable friend says he thinks the table is from the 1940s or 1950s.

My young friend and I have the greatest of times. He stopped by tonight, and we worked on the table. Then, when another friend (adult) called to discuss stereo speakers, my friend played with his cars. I demanded that he keep "my" orange Ford Mustang where I could see it, and he did.

I think it's way more modern than that. My ex had one exactly the same and it was modern...maybe hers was a repro of your old model. I do think it's indian in style as everything remotely like this has some indian reference in the title like the one in this pic.
The 'Maharaja' range is crafted from solid sheesham wood, a type of Indian rosewood that is not only durable but also retains the unique colours and imperfections of the grain which give it such beautiful, natural character. This coffee table is typical of

Thanks for the research. It could be! The wood looks similar, as does the style of the metal ornamentation.
