Low Responses

I see this discussion topic often and decided as somebody that has been here over 10 years should address now. Fist there are some topics that a lot of members post that are the same or close to it it like good morning and good evening. Another reason is you don't have anything to add because you don't know or follow the subject and that is me and most sports. Its hard to discuss a topic you really are terrible at and really not planning to improve. My husband and I feel its better for him to golf with people that enjoy the game. He also enjoys skiing and I really prefer to sit by the fire. We can go on the ski trip and don't need to be together all the time. Its really good to have different interests and I always bring some books that are on my to be read list. Some days people are busy with other activities including jobs, family and holidays. I know there are certain days where I need a lot more hours in a day. This post is just to inform others that yes you might not have many responses right away, but that doesn't mean people won't respond at a later time. I have discussions that people have responded years later.

I get response sometimes at a later day and that is ok because you at least are getting responses.

Sometimes I'll see a discussion and need to think about my response before posting an answer. There are times I need to get some information about facts and numbers for a discussion. Its important for me to be helpful and I enjoy learning more about other people. Thanks for posting.

I used to get frustrated if a post sort of fizzled out. But it doesn't really bother much much anymore. I just move on to the next one and all is good.

i see posts that contain like 3 to 5 questions, but the poster never even shared their own viewpoint, or their experience or why they're asking them, so when it feels more like a survey collecting answers, or a one-sided interview, i'm reluctant to participate.

I can understand as there are discussions with a lot of questions and no thoughts on how they feel now. Most of the time I do try to inform people how I feel and why I don't post on certain topics. Thanks for posting.

You are right. Yesterday I was not at home and I had no time to check the discussions of my friends, but today I will go around and check what I missed.

Thanks for posting. Yes, I have a trip planned for Knotts Berry Farm to see the Christmas decorations and bring home an ornament in a couple weeks. I'll certainly be posting about the trip and hope to post a photo. Have a great weekend.

i don't fret low turn-outs, lol. i feel that many're jest readin'/respondin' outta hopes that folks're gonna go'n do the same 't their place. i feel if'n a subject aint fer me, i bypass 't. not to be rude, but i don't care what folks eat fer breakfast/dinner/supper. shame i aint learnt to steer clear'f the political discussions....

@HAPPSINGH i wish folks 'ppreciated such, hon. sadly, many take great offense - e'en if'n they make'n inquiry to yer thoughts 't seems they've a hidden agenda. seekin' like-minded folks, they've closed their hearts'n minds to any/all other possibilities...'r they seek co-dependence. but, i shoot from the hip, always've.

That's very true. One of my old discussions suddenly has six or eight new comments on it.

@porwest It takes me most of my time to keep with the discussions of those I'm following but that's a good idea.

For me that's extremely rare. I swear I am the only one around here who actually digs around for older posts here. I could be wrong about that. I have tried to encourage people to do it more...but most people think it takes too much time. I just happen to think it's fun to explore and enjoy doing it.

I think most of us have people we follow as we feel a connection. Others just do not invite my attention in the same way.

I agree and have mentioned there are topics that I'm not able to give a good response like many sports questions. Yes, I know the names of people that no longer play and can name a few players today, but don't ask me where they play. Thanks for posting.

There are lots of reasons that a discussion receives low responses. The main thing for people to realise is that low or no responses isn't necessarily a reflection on that discussion. I write very few discussions and regularly remove the ones I feel have run their course. But I leave the odd few up and they've regularly gained over 100 responses and there are some up now about to go over the 100 mark...maybe When you post you may get no responses but over time your discussions may build up and up and take off after days, weeks, months or even years so don't be disheartened in the short term. It's quite possible for a discussion here to hit the top of the hot list years after it was originally posted.

Your right I do see discussions on the top list that were posted years ago. I have watched television shows become hot again like when X-files came back and people were responding to the show when it started and the changes. Thanks for posting and yes you certainly have a lot of responses on your posts.

Yes..i feel the same way... i too get responses on older discussions. If we had discussions which we could discuss...then we wouldn't need hundreds of new discussions everyday for small talk.

You made me chuckle about the hundreds of new topics everyday. I do believe there is news to discuss everyday that is new and like to see new posts. The older discussions are important also, as I do go back and see if there is something new to add. Thanks for posting.
