Lol my dogs do the same thing. They will have a bowl full of water and when we go outside they will drink from a puddle somewhere. I'm always like really?

Preiti refuses to drink water from a bowl. It is now kept in a tiny saucer which she spills and then laps it up from the floor. I have yet to understand her logic.

Dad used to tell us of his ma's crawdad stew, dad was born in 1921 so I suppose they ate anything they could get, money was so tight back then.

@JolietJake The snapping turtles are dangerous, I hope that Scar is careful and not too curious. Tomorrow if it's warm enough outside, I clean the pond and change the water, I do not like to see the kitties drink that water.

The only concern I have is there was a snapping turtle that showed up here a few times last year...he's inquisitive enough that he could get hurt

Princess found the bird bath to be delectable last night. She was being very kittenish, stalking the neighbor kid, and climbing out on a limb as far as she could go.

Ours is like that too, only with the birdbath. And if he chooses that as an alternative to fresh water, we daren't even dare imagine what he's eating instead of fresh food.

Louie (my old cat) gave me fits for a bit...I had a leaky water heater and he insisted that was where he wanted to drink from. When we replaced it, I had to end up moving his water bowl next to it to shut him up.

I had one that didn't like cold water...I had to 'warm it up' for him a few times a day or he'd sit and cry at me.

That's a cat for you...or any pet for that matter! They have everything they need and all the best of everything but it isn't enough for them...he does look cute though! He is just trying to make you feel bad!!

First of all, cats do NOT like their food and water to be in the same place. Eating and drinking are not 'companion' functions like they are with humans. Second, cats can detect all sorts of things in tap water that we can't smell (or have gotten used to) and they really do prefer 'organic' water - that is (often) water with all kinds of organic things in it which we'd consider unfit to drink. Water straight out of the tap either has chlorine in it or it smells so uninteresting that they probably doubt that it's water at all.

My old cat will head straight for the mud puddles to get a drink when we let her outside. I yell at her, but she just ignores me. I don't want the neighbors to think we are denying her water!
