New Stresser

My daughter, my grandson and I live in housing and my daughter has a Section 8 voucher. We have been here for nearly twenty years. Usually we get a packet of paperwork to fill out and get in to them by a certain date. A few weeks later we would receive a letter from HUD telling us what the subsidy amount will be and what our responsibility will be. Over the last few years that has changed and we just get a letter stating the difference in contract rent and the subsidy amount. Fine. No problems. Until....... In mid April we got a letter with a lease from Housing. We have never gotten a 'lease' from them in the past and so this was cause for a bit of confusion. I don't like change and when there is some my anxiety level automatically begins to go up. I like to know what is expected of me/us and when I don't know the anxiety begins. What will the subsidy amount be? Why haven't we heard anything?I was beginning to wonder if we were going to be responsible for the difference until we are recertified in September. In looking at the rent amount I just felt it was higher. I wasn't sure because I didn't have the old HUD letter to look at. I heed and hawed around about it for several weeks waiting and set on the lease and didn't send it in. Finally yesterday I emailed the gal at the HUD office and asked her. She said she knew nothing of any change and would send me a copy of the old info. If there was any change to let her know. Oh, I sure would. I got that copy of the old HUD letter today. The old rent was $35 different alright. I called the housing rep. She told me that the rental change had been sent to HUD the same time she sent me the lease. Four weeks ago! She went and met with the HUD rep. She called me about a half an hour later. Tells me that the HUD rep said for some reason the new info had not been entered. (I wonder what happened there.) So, now we are waiting on the HUD letter telling us what the new subsidy we get and what our responsiblity will be. I have been sitting on the lease because I knew that when I sent that in we would be legally bound to pay that amount. I wondered if housing would begin to wonder at some point why I hadn't gotten it back to them. For some a $35 difference each month may not be much but when you are scrambling to pay medical bills and rent and groceries and over a hundred in power and all that then it can become a problem when you get only a fixed amount monthly. About the time I begin to feel better and feel the symptoms of severe depression begin to subside, the anxiety calm down, sleep gets back to nearly normal, and life seems positive and good for awhile.......then something like this happens to throw a wrench into the whole thing. Yes, I am relieved to know I am not nuts but someone in a higher office is. Anxiety? Yes, a little.

I hope it all gets straightened out soon! I hate not knowing, but sometimes with me I just don't want to know so (but we know that causes even more stress). But better to find out sooner than later.

@much2say ......Nothing yet. Don't know how long it takes this woman to send out a letter. Couple of weeks I am thinking. I hope I am pleasantly surprised.

Yes, they are nuts, I get it Celtic. At least that is a logical conclusion, because simple things just cannot be done efficiently and in a timely honest fashion. These types of mistakes are quite serious when one is waiting for the correct amount.

Yes, they are. I know now who I can trust to give the correct info and get to the bottom of it too.

I can understand your anxiety over that rather large clerical error. I do hope it works out well for you. HUD (and the rest of our gov't) is under new management and it does not look good so far.

@JamesHxstatic ......Looks like there could be obstruction of justice charges but the committees want to get to the bottom of this Russia then and may overlook it. But, even if he is put down we have Pence to contend with. He is a yes man and who is going to yes man for if Trump is gone?

I have missed this post. I understand about the stress and worrying if you will be able to meet all obligations. Did it turn out okay? Do you know yet?

Hope this gets processed quickly for you and that the anxiety lessens. I hate not knowing too especially when it comes to monthly bills.

They certainly seem not to worry about how people who are ion limited income rely so much on correct information.

35.00 is a huge difference, especially cause it would happen each and every month. I wish you luck and less stress.
