I am heading to Dollar General.

The closest "mass merchandiser" we have is Dollar General, ten miles away. I need some bathroom cleaner, and some bleach for sure. I put bleach on poison ivy. It seems to kill it, and I do not have to worry about spraying stuff that I might breathe or that might kill the other useful plants. When my grandkids turn three I make them a cleaning kit. I will see the newest three year old this week. I am started on his stuff, with a tote, a spray bottle for water or vinegar, a small swiffer 360, and a small dustpan and broom. I will need to see what else I can find.

Giving them real tools, not pretend ones send the message that I value them as a real person, not just a child. I think it helps them and cleaning is fun when you are little.

I think I started this because the oldest liked my broom with a stand up dustpan. It just grew from there.

It probably will. I do not often try to kill plants but the poison Ivy must go.

@GardenGerty I avoid killing plants, but when they grow on the pathway they must go.

I don't know if bleach kills poison ivy but inhaling it could kill me I had a bad experience with it years ago. I no longer use it at all.

I mixed it once with ammonia, before I knew better. I only use it outdoors, not in my wash. I prefer oxyclean or peroxide.

@GardenGerty The only 'white items' I have are my husband's socks and I don't worry much how white they are or aren't since he wears boots!

I had a "lobby broom" and a stand up dust pan she loved. I just expanded the idea with non toxic stuff. Vinegar is safe for them to spray things with and baking soda is great to put in a shaker container. I save old spice jars. Working in a Headstart we always tried to get "authentic" things for kids to play with. I learned a lot there.

I wonder if bleach will kill off an overgrown hosta and tiger lilies? Have been trying to dig them up, but they are firmly rooted and I can't get them out of the ground. They have become too big for the area in which the original owner planted them. My grandaughter loves to help out with the cleaning too. I have been looking for a small broom and dustpan for her that won't break the bank. She has a small play vacuum that she uses occasionally. She would rather use my Shark when I am trying to vacuum. LOL.

You need a "bobcat" to get those plants out. Or cover them with cardboard or black plastic. Bleach is a last resort for me.

That is why I do what I do, with adult small things, because child sized is actually much more expensive.

There's definitely a lot that you can find at a dollar store. It's always good.

A cleaning kit is a great idea @GardenGerty to get little ones to take part in wanting to keep their space clean.

My daughter told me she had enough brooms with the last one, so he got a swiffer that I made a washable cover for. Need to do same for this one.

I imagine it will wipe everything out it touches. Poison ivy has really spreading roots.

I think bleaching is sufficient. You need not use any other poisonous things that kill useful plants.

That is right. Many people are seriously allergic to poison ivy, and it is hard to remove.
