I need to find a gift

Saturday I am going to a ladies' group and we are going to take presents. I need to come up with a good idea for something. It can be used. I have to wrap it in red or purple. We used to be a Red Hat group, but left the organization. We are now the Victorian Violets, so our colors are still red and purple. These are friends of mine in Oklahoma. I get to go to meetings and parties with them two or three times a year. My sister in law is one of them. We are visiting my family in Oklahoma for the weekend. I think it will be fun.

I love that name:the Victorian Violets. Do you have a pretty cup or mug that you could put something in? A plant like @Hatley suggests or something naughty like M and Ms?

I was thinking candy dish with Ferro Roche or Ghiradelli, but I like the idea of a mug better. Since this is a "grab bag" type exchange, I am not sure that all would like plants. I would like plants but that is me.

Hope you have a great time. There is a Red Hat group near here but I haven't joined. Hope you come up with something. Cup and saucer? Flowers? Jar of home-made cookies?

I am avoiding the kitchen today so I can do other long post poned chores. If I was smart I would have some in my freezer. I am leaning toward looking for an antique cup and saucer and filling it with something. If I cannot find that, I may look for a blinged out insulated cup, then people can have water--soda--coffee, you name it.

That's great! It sounds like so much fun. What about a small flower pot with actual violets? You can't really wrap it, but you could put it in a gift sack. You could go anywhere from Wal-Mart to Home Depot.

That is a type of gift I would like, but not everyone else in the group would. I have often wondered how far you would consider driving to come to some of these events. I do not get down for many of them, and they do not strictly happen every month, but you would be so welcome to come. They also do not always cost money.

@GardenGerty That sounds like fun. I want so badly to get involved in activities. But I don't trust myself to get there. I don't have a GPS, and I think my family has drilled it into my head that I'll get lost anywhere. My confidence is kind of shot. But thank you so much for the invite.

That does sound like fun! How about the usual: candles, small plant, journal, Christian book, home made goodies, pretty mug, holiday pin?

I did not learn about this in time to make something. I need to make a stash and just keep it. I was hoping for maybe something Christian themed as these are a fine and fun bunch of Christian ladies.

I cannot say, but since you know all of them maybe buy something hat is age appropriate and that they will like.

Age. . . that is a dirty word. We range in age from 4 years old to probably over seventy. It's complicated, in a very fun way.

A huge mum would be good, but we are getting down to freezing. I could see this, @Hatley. It might not be so cold in Oklahoma.

Isn't there an old Christmas or Birthday present you have that you never actually used or perhaps a home decoration that just doesn't fit the new decor?

I had considered a candy dish I have. If I do not find anything else, that will get filled with nice chocolates.

Now that would make a wonderful gift @GardenGerty who doesn't like chocolate, right? And to have a candy bowl for future chocolates is the bonus.

Do you need to make more than one gifts? What about wrapping fine teas boxes? At least those can be used.

It does sound like fun and it's neat that you still spend time together even though you're not longer in the red hat group. The store where I work has many clearance items right now, unfortunately the stores aren't any further west than Wisconsin and Indiana. Maybe you can find something at a discount or department store near you? Candles are usually well-liked. Most people also like candy, although many of them probably are having their fill this time of yearf as they prepare for Tuesday.

I will start at the thrift shop and Dollar General as they are closest. If I do candy it will be a little bit nicer than the kind you hand out for trick or treat. I have known some of these ladies for a while, like my sister in law, but others are new friends just met from this group.

I wish I could help choose a gift. I'm sure you will find something terrific. I'd look in little gift shops as a start. Have fun!

I have loved the ideas here. Shopping is limited nearby, but I may look for an antique mug and fill it with some pretties or goodies.

That sounds like so much fun! Perhaps a vase or something? I am so bad with coming up with gifts haha! That is cute you have a theme and such. How fun!

You know, I do not think of myself as a joiner or social person, but it is fun to be around these ladies. Some, but not all of them, go to my brother's church.

@GardenGerty just that I went through quite a few pairs already, someone must have burned or dirty them often without letting me know.
