Do you actually enjoy carving a pumpkin or do you hate it? For me I dislike the process but enjoy the result. Here are the 2 pumpkins that grew in my garden from seeds I planted from one bought last Halloween. Seems those strange looking fruits were not squash or some other garden fruit/vegetable after all! Unfortunately Sonja Rae and Linus Herman Brown (their names) are a little small for carving. But still spooky

Today is pumpkin-carving day, a smile or a grimace, and maybe a nice hot bowl of pumpkin soup later...

@dgobucks226 Two decent-sized pumpkins carved, dual-faced... the flesh saved off these 2 will go along with onion, carrot, parsnip and potato tomorrow to make a hearty Halloween warmer

@dgobucks226 I bought pattern for carving in the United States, but as we do not celebrate Halloween here, I never tried to carve one.

@LadyDuck It does take a bit of talent to do it well. Us Americans go a bit crazy over these special days.

My neighbor has one. They actually sell patterns of scary faces now to use as a pattern for carving.

No carving pumpkins for me. But though Sonja Rae and LHB are a little small for carving, I hope you get one to carve @dgobucks226

I love their names. How grand that you got pumpkins to grow. I sprinkled and sprinkled bug killer near my crookneck squash plants and still only got a couple measly fruits. I did end up with two butter nut squash so I'm not totally a failure.

@just4him True! I sense you like to see pumpkins decorated They are really cool when done properly. Especially with a candle inside to illuminate them.

@dgobucks226 -I don't mind the mess so much, but they just don't look very good when I'm finished.

@teamfreak16 Isn't that the truth. I do the boring triangle shapes and cross my fingers for the mouth

I threw the rotting pumpkin there for the squirrels to devour. Which they did, but guess they left a few seeds behind.

Those are pretty nice looking pumpkins from your garden. I haven't carved a pumpkin since I was a kid but I do enjoy going pumpkin picking with my grandchildren. Usually they just draw on their pumpkins and don't carve them up.

Yes, I do the same now. After Halloween they become food for the squirrels

Some people seem to be really good at carving pumpkins. You must need a sharp knife as some have very tough skins.

I was never very successful at carving them. Kids are grown so just have ceramic ones to get out every year.

I was not very skilled with the carving either and it is messy. I usually draw faces on them with marker now.
