The Deed is Done

We got up, had coffee and drank morning smoothies. Then we drove to Wichita. Hubby got impressions of his teeth, and was told to come back around two. Oh, and to eat before we came back. We found a Village Inn restaurant, and had breakfast and coffee, before going back for the extractions. The doctor gave hubby a prescription for antibiotics for a week and said the heart doctor said he should not take the blood thinners for five days. I am glad we ate well this morning. Hubby was not really able to get down more than a few bites of the homemade soup. He was tired and I sent him off to bed. I will do some bills online, then I will join him there. He will be sore tomorrow I am sure.

He should not eat/drink anything hot for at least a couple of days.

I know, that may make it bleed, but they did not say he could not. They told him to eat anything he was comfortable with.

@GardenGerty I only had two wisdom teeth extracted the same day. My dentist suggested nothing hot for two days, even if it does not bleed, the cold speeds up the healing process.

Why do they do impressions before pulling his teeth?

I am not sure, except they wanted to be able to prepare the plate and put it in as soon as the teeth were out to prevent excessive swelling.

Thank you so much. I know it hurts quite a bit, so he does not want to eat.

Yeah, me too. I can't get him to really smile, though.

We try to take care of each other. I know he will feel better, but I also know this hurts a lot.

How long is it going to take before he can actually start wearing his dentures? Does it depend on how well he heals, or is there a "ballpark" timeframe? I had to pay nearly $6,000 for one tooth, and the next time the dentist recommends something like that I'm going to tell him to save me $4500 and give me dentures.

He has had an upper plate for nearly forever. The lower plate went right in as soon as the teeth were out. That was how the uppers were done years ago and that is what he wanted was a dentist who proceeded that way. Some say it keeps down swelling and shapes the mouth to the dentures as it heals. He cannot remove it for the first five days.

@gardengerty I’d never have thought of eating before getting my teeth out. How practical of the dentist to suggest it!!

I guess it is pretty standard in this office, and it does make sense. I am afraid he will waste completely away.

I feel badly that he has neglected his teeth so long to be in this shape.
