Over 40,000 discussions in 10 days!

I've been snooping/playing with numbers trying to find out approximately how many people/discussions were on myLot when I first joined back in 2006.
It seems there were just over 86,000 discussions the first day I was here (October 16). mylot.com/post/86002/copywrite-theft
But to get there, I started searching from the 100,000 mark...which happened on October 20, 2006:
mylot.com/post/100001/positive-affirmations
However...while doing more snooping...I found out that 10 days later (October 30) the number of discussions had increased to 140,150
mylot.com/post/140150/shares-vs-mutual-fund
An average of over 4000 discussions per day.
Of course, 'discussions' is a relative term. Many back then were simple questions: "I prefer to invest in Shares.. wt do u think.."
But way back then, they were allowed.
Just thought I'd throw that out there.
But all the same, lots of stuff did get deleted back then...like discussions 99,997 through 100,000.
(Yes, I know...I get weird when I get bored)

These days there are around 300 discussions per day. with an average (for the last year) of about 10 responses and 17 comments per discussion. Here's a screenshot of my spreadsheet (there are several columns you can ignore because they're only there for the calculations).

@owlwings I realized many of the 'Whoops!' discussions showing when I search numbers doesn't mean Admin deleted them...it also means they weren't transferred over in 2013. I wonder how many tens of thousands were 'lost' then.

The way the site is set up these days, I couldn't keep up with the 'Most Recent Discussions' list at 4,000 a day
Of course, quality (for the most part) is vastly greater than it was in our younger days here.

Ask myLotBugs. Not that it would matter to me...the number posted vs the content of what they posted...posting the most isn't indicative of quality.

That "4000 discussions per day" figure was for "back then"? What is it now?

@BarBaraPrz because a lot of them are just repeat topics

@porwest For one, back then, a 4-5 word question was acceptable as a 'discussion', and with the 'rules' so relaxed, there were many more users, therefore much more action.
The site really had an entirely different feel than it has these days. I'd like to see more people active, but I'd hate to see 'discussions' go back to what they were in the beginning.

@JolietJake Any ideas why this occurred, or is occurring? That being said, MAYBE it's better. I do think we still lack certain 'quality' here, and I am as guilty of that as anyone. But I would think MAYBE quality has improved ?

Wow, 80 thousand discussions in a single day.
Talk about activity!
I'm an old myLot user. When I joined, everything was different. We could search discussions through categories, do you remember that? Grouped them by subjects. Also, the money-making formula was completely different.
I'm back to help my wife getting better at English, and it's still nice to see so much activity.
I wonder how many discussions are made in a day, nowadays.
Regards!

Thanks for all the hard work for finally I can sleep at night.
I would never have the patience to do that.

My table is derived from the serial numbers allotted to each discussion. I estimate that roughly 10% of all discussions will have been deleted, one way or another, by the time I calculate the figures, so it would probably be more accurate to say that, instead of about 300, there are about 270 each day which survive.
Something I'd love to know (but can't calculate without a lot of work) is how many members are active each day (that is, how many post at least one discussion, response or comment)

The strongest point in your line of thinking, is mathematical just like my Dad. That's a characteristic you should be very proud of, it means you are very mechanically inclined!

Unfortunately, when the site was 'reworked' in May 2013, they didn't transfer over discussions from people that had 'closed' their accounts, so I am unable to find my very first discussion now.

By looking up the discussions, which have the discussion number in the URL and the date posted in the discussion.

Feeling really bored? No discussions that interest you lately? Well, you're in luck!!![em]w00t[/em] It just so happens that I can show you how to find random...
