Or "will wonders never cease"? Both are expressions to convey surprise. I got a surprise a bit ago. My dentist called to check up on me. I am going to the same practice, but they have rotated doctors. Still have the same hygienists. Or at least I have had the same one all three times I have had extractions. She looks high school age. This extraction has been by far the easiest in my opinion. The dentist must have thought there was some trouble, though. He got the tooth out pretty easily, but had to use lots of instruments to go after a little piece of the root. It bled a lot at the time but was done within an hour or so. The first one I had pulled bled for over eight hours. The second one I had pulled I developed sores in my throat and under my tongue. When I remembered to make lemon balm tea they healed up quickly. I am drinking my tea, and I have antibiotics. However I have not needed any tylenol or aleve for pain since last night. This is good. So when was the last time a medical professional called to check up on you?

I can't remember when that would have been. Every time I had teeth out they would bleed for ages.

Last year when he had to pull out a wisdom tooth that was only out for half the length. It bled when he finished and he wanted to be sure that I was fine, no pain, no swollen face or other problems. The doctor of my husband called the day after he had hernia surgery, just to know if I needed he came to have a look.

That kind of service and care is unusual here in the United States. They do expect you to call if you have a problem.

@LadyDuck That makes great sense to me, it is easier for them to contact you.

@GardenGerty They call here if they think you could have a problem. Often their telephones are busy and it's hard to get in touch with them because they receive other patients.

@rakski I had a tooth pulled. I went there because I was not getting what I needed for my teeth elsewhere and they were decaying. It was new to me for him to follow up.

@gardengerty If my doctor called to see how I was I’d assume something must be wrong.

Yes, it makes me wonder what he was expecting to go wrong. However, I did complain about the last two extractions causing me trouble. Nothing I could not deal with, but trouble none-the-less.

Not very often, that's for sure. Mainly the nurse will call with results. Getting a Dr to call is like pulling teeth, pun intended. ( Did you enjoy that one) [ saying, that is]?

Hey, I caught that saying. I had used it somewhere the other day. I get my regular doctor to e mail my lab results when I have my quarterly checks.

Ooh, I'll have to remember that lemon balm tea trick. I've had two extractions this year, and they didn't give me any antibiotics or pain medication (other than all the injections of novocaine) for it at all. The last one was really an awful experience, and I've been putting off going back for my cleaning.

Pretty much due to the opioid abuse problem they do not give prescription pain meds lately. Have not for a few years. Usually they say to take acetaminophen, or ibuprofen (which hurts my stomach) or naproxen which is my choice. I have had a small joint in my foot replaced, so the foot doctor wants me to have antibiotics. Now, most dentists say it has been long enough not to need them. The dental clinic I used to go to wanted me to pre medicate. The first dentist I saw at this clinic said because I was diabetic he would give me antibiotics, then forgot with the first extraction. I still had some on hand from work at the other clinic. Second extraction my primary care said if he forgot or would not she would. I have tended to have a lot of illnesses that do not heal in the last two years. I told the other dentist and the new dentist at this clinic and left with a prescription both times. Lemon balm tea is very good for a lot of things. Celestial Seasonings has several teas that have it if you cannot get the herb. Lemon Lavender Lane has several lemon herbs in it, including lemon balm.

Uh... never? Glad you don't hurt. As for the lemon balm tea, do you buy it commercially, or do you have it growing in your garden? (I do.)

I had not had it growing well since I moved. I bought some from my herbal lady last month. There are a number of Celestial Seasonings and other commercial teas that do contain it. It is calming, anti infective and helps you feel cooler. I will continue buying it in bulk until my plant is flourishing and taking over the front herb bed. I was quite surprised to get the call from the dentist.

This tooth was a breeze. He squirted some anti infective stuff in it before I left, too. Tasted a lot like strong mouthwash. First time a dentist has done that too.
