“Do you WALK your CAT on a LEASH?”

Honestly, I never have seen or tried to walk a cat in our neighborhood. Since Shadow is a fast-growing whisker, I am planning to buy a leash with a collar. I am not sure if he will like it or not. At the back of my mind, it would be a waste of money if buying one. Moreover, I am also excited to walk him around on a leash. I am pretty sure the people will have mixed reactions. Some elders would react that it is an omen seeing a black kitten. “Have you tried to use a leash with your cat?” “Have you seen someone or somebody walk their cats in the neighborhood?” Image Credit: petmd.com

I have a neighbor who walks her cat on a leash. She got her cat used to the harness at a young age, so now it's very natural for the cat. I have seen probably three cats on a leash in my lifetime. I thought it was pretty cool.

I am jealous that you had seen cats on a leash. In my country, I haven't seen one do it.

I agree. I think they can't stand the long walking. It is most likely that I will carry him back home after the walking.

Do you think it is the best time that your cat will walk around the park with a leash? You had said that he never goes out of the house before. What do you think?

@caopaopao My whiskers usually follow walking in the yard. I haven't tried to walk them on the road.

Not here, we live in a quiet area in the countryside, cats are left free to explore the area. In the cities I have seen cat at a leash, like dogs.

In my country, I haven't seen anyone walking their cats on a leash. It would be a surprise if I do this. The people will be thinking how weird I am.

@Shavkat I have seen some in Italy, not here, but we live in the countryside, cats stay in their garden.

I think if they have been used to a leash from a young age, then they don't mind it. I've seen cats in caravan parks being walked on a leash.

I agree. If they started to have it at a young age. I think my fellowmen are not aware that it is possible to walk the cat on a leash.

@Shavkat I wouldn't have thought it possible once either but now I've seen it and the cats didn't mind at all. And JJ's Scar goes on a leash too.

I think it is not really common in our country. I can relate to a cat who jumps high to have something on the table.

I am pretty sure that would be the reaction of the local people here. For the reason that they never walk their cats on a leash.

I do not have cats and I have never seen them walked, let alone on a leash. Usually I see cats wonder around the neighborhood on their own, no owner in sight.

@Shavkat I do wonder why owners allow the cats to wander the streets. I guess cats know their way back home. But what if someone takes them?

@Shavkat I often wondered how people trained their cats to walk with a leash or without and next to them and not run away. My Mitzi I had before Sophie tried to do that but she wanted nothing to do with it. She wanted to go out by herself alone. Sophie doesn't go out except in the hallway outside our apartment and on our porch.

I saw some like that, and it is practical really, since any movement that frighten the cat, and you could say goodbye to it for ever (unless you are ready to call the firebrigade to rescue the cat from some high trees or rooftops).

That's too bad. I think it is better for this cat to walk around and be free. Perhaps the owner is afraid that it might go away.

I have seen a few people who walked with a cat on a leash, but it is not something I see very often. I live in a quiet village and most cat owners don't use a leash. We don't have a cat anyone, and we never tried to take her for a walk when we had her.

@Shavkat It is nice that you have a good place for them. We have a pretty large garden and our cat liked to spend time there. I never tried to take our cat for at walk and I am not sure that she would have enjoyed it.

@Porcospino I think they are lucky to have the yard. Shadow loves to climb trees lately. He had killed a baby sparrow for the first time. Poor bird. I am having the curiosity how it feels to walk a cat on the street.

Most of my whiskers are free to run around the house. We have a spacious yard and a good playground for them. I got really curious if how does a cat feel when wearing a leash. In my country, they never let their cats on a leash.

IF you do it @Shavkat , it would be good to practice inside of the house first so he could get use to the leash. He may still panic when being walked outside though. You would also have to be careful on how snug the leash is around the neck; otherwise if he panics, he could wiggle out of it OR if it's too tight, he could snap his neck.

I think that it is a good idea. He might be surprised seeing so many people while walking on the road. I will try it this afternoon. I hope he likes being leashed. I just want to show to locals that it is not bad to have a pure black whisker.

@nanette64 I tried an experiment last night. I used a lace and wrap around Shadow's neck. He doesn't like to be leashed. I think it is also a good idea to have the harness.

@Shavkat Good plan. Otherwise you'll have to buy him a harness to wear. I've had several black cats and they are just as wonderful as the others.

I have been wanting to get Lily on a leash. I have one with a harness. I can't get the harness on her. I did try to use the leash on the D ring on her collar, but she didn't like it.
