Kangaroo fillet, camel sausage and emu pate for feral foodies

While we were in the Flinders Range area of South Australia, we indulged in a meal at the Prairie Hotel in Parachilna. We had heard about their feral food platter so we shared a plate of antipasto which included slivers of roast kangaroo fillet, camel sausage and emu pate.
Although it was pretty expensive it went down very nicely with a pint of their home-brewed beer for Vince and a lemon, lime and bitters for me. The kangaroo meat was quite red and a bit chewy but the emu pate was really nice. Goat cheese and some bread completed a very tasty meal. We don’t often eat the local wildlife so it was a bit of a change for us.
It's nice to be a bit adventurous with food choices occasionally.

I hope that the emus are better treated than the French geese in order to have the pate. This is something I do not eat because I am against torturing the animals. I am not vegetarian, but at least do not make them suffer for our little pleasure.

@JudyEv yes, it is very distinctive - looks uncooked even when it is

@JudyEv For a while, these more exotic 'wild' meats were promoted as more healthy than the domesticated alternatives and some people took up farming bison and ostrich. We used to go to Cornwall (south-west England - I'm sure you know that) every Easter on a big club scuba-diving trip and the people that ran the place also farmed ostriches so we'd regularly have ostrich burgers. They also sold eggs. But then there was some change in the law which re-classified ostriches as dangeroous wild animals and required a whole lot more paperwork etc so they gave up.
Currently a lot of people have alpacas to 'mow' their lawns or for wool but apparently the agriculture department hasn't caught on yet so they are still classified as pets which means they avoid all the legal hassle. Strangely I have never seen alpaca meat anywhere.

@Fleura I haven't heard of anyone eating alpaca either. We stayed at the holiday place in Ireland and they had an emu. But it was kept out of sight as EU laws said it was an exotic animal and there were laws regarding public display and having a wildlife vet available or some such. So stupid.

That would be an adventurous meal for sure. Was the filet tender? Do they raise the kangaroos for meat or collect wild ones?
I love goat cheese!

@Jessabuma I've had crocodile. That's probably the only other 'different' sort of meat that I've tried although I have had bardi grubs.

In Asia they eat all kinds of insects and I might have a bit of trouble with that but if it has two or four legs I'd give it a try.

I love it on fresh oven baked bread.
