Ready for Some Good News

I got a letter from Social Security today that blew my mind away. Now, I was expecting something from them, just not what the letter contained. However, it also causes a lot of problems.
I've been paid on the third Wednesday of the month for three years. All that changed today. I am now getting paid on the third of the month, today, which I also verified with my bank account. It looks great. I'll also be getting the refund for my Medicare, since the state is paying that, and that will be in my account on the 10th.
Right now, all my bills are paid for this month, which is good. Right now, I also don't need groceries because when I overstocked in June, I really overstocked. I still have plenty, and if I only buy when I need something, I shouldn't be spending too much money for food at one time anymore.
So, this is either going to throw my bill paying off, or I keep to the payment system I have been using for the past three years. Which I think is the best, since I pay all bills at the end of the month anyway for the following month.
At least my checking account looks good for the time being.
Do you have any good news? Thanks for reading.

That's really good news for you! Nice!
I got cantaloupes and they were big and on sale 2 for $3 which are normally $3 each and so I bought 4 as they are heavy to carry home. That's my good news for today.

@just4him - That is wonderful news! I am so happy for you. I like to pay my bills is bunches, too. I split my bills and pay half early in the month and half late in the month. It is nice to not have to worry about them on a day-to-day basis.

@just4him - Yes, I can understand that. I think everyone should follow that practice of paying bills first before they spend money on other things.

Yeah, I remember when I was getting paid the 2nd wednesday of the month then when I turned 65 I started getting paid on the 2nd of every month. I've always wondered if retired folks under 65 ever got paid every 1st wednesday of the month.

They gave me their reason for why they made that change. It's because the state is paying my Medicare. if it weren't, I would still be paid on the third Wednesday. I know some people who get paid on the first Wednesday. It depends on where your birthday lands. Mine is the third week, so that's when I was paid.

You're right. I don't have a savings account. I wish I did, but if I remember correctly, being on assistance you're not allowed a savings account. It'll work out. It always does. I'm just not thrilled that it's throwing everything off for me.

@porwest Great analogy. My life was good up to the point I got fired from my job at the age of 59. I was doing good. Had a house and mortgage, couldn't complain. Then I got the ax and couldn't find a job due to my age and physical limitations. With no income after the unemployment ran out, I lost my home and was forced onto Social Security early and assistance. Now, I'm working like crazy to become a best selling author to get off this train wreck of a lifestyle. If it weren't for my son living with me, it would have been much worse.

@just4him Oh man. Good enough reason to not be on assistance...but I get it. I'd much rather get ahead than be held back and stuck. NOT saying you are doing something wrong, though. I have NO IDEA what your situation is or was that got you stuck on assistance in the first place. But I'd be working to get the hell off of it if I could. I have always said, assistance helps no one if it makes it impossible to get ahead or get off of it. It would be like saying to someone, "You can probably walk with the help of this cane. But if I give you this cane, you can't have your wheelchair back in case you may need it until you are fully capable of walking..."

It looks like I don“t need to pay so much tax this time.. earlier I had to wait until the end of the year to get the extra money, but it seems we who are retired pay less tax, or at least I have some more in my bank account..

Why the change? It sounds good to me. I imagine keeping the same method will work. My sister pays it all at the first of the month, when her check comes in.

They change for several reasons, for me it's because the state is paying my Medicare.

It can really throw plans out the window when a drastic change in payments happens. When my husband changed jobs soon after we were first married, we went two months before getting paid by the new position. We had to get a small bank loan to cover our bills.

That does make it tough. I've been there with changing jobs and that time until the first check was as long as three weeks. And then it was a small check because it was in the middle of the pay period. I'm glad you found a way to make it.
