I know, it's hot outside. How can I eat chili this time of year? It's simple, I have a yen for some chili that just won't go away. Last night I prepared the died beans to cook overnight in the crockpot on low. I love my chili with pinto beans when I make it from scratch. This morning I threw in the rest of the ingredients so they could simmer the day away. I love when all of those flavors intermingle and the aroma fills the air. It smells so good I am not sure I can wait for dinner Meanwhile I will be writing a little, watching a couple of programs, and , of course, reading. I hope everyone is having a healthy and happy Sunday.

I like chili con carne (in winter), but I prefer to use kidney beans. I use pinto beans for minestrone.

@Marilynda1225 I tied once because I only had pintos, but I did not like a lot the taste of pintos in the chili.

@LadyDuck I'll stick to the kidney beans and not try to experiment. Don't want to ruin a whole pot of chili

@HazySue I don't think I've ever read anything by Joan Johnston. Hope it turns out to be a good read for you

Right now I am reading Shattered by Joan Johnston. I am only in the beginning of the book but it looks like it will be interesting.

I do too. Unfortunately I have had to tone down the spice in eveything.

We're not at all fond of any of these types of beans but I'm sure the smell must be really nice.

Chili con carne is one of my favorite food, in fact I have a craving for it short of an addiction from time to time, my canned supply comes from the U.S. cause it's not popular here and hard to find and buy, we make our own when my supply runs out using a pressure cooker to speed up cooking time and to give it a canned good texture and consistency. Sunday is almost over here but thanks we had a nice one.

What a coincidence! I am also making chili for dinner tonight and for lunch to work tomorrow. I put beans, chicken, corn, tomatoes and some seasoning in the crockpot. The house has started to smell so good. I am with you that it is not quite cold yet for chili, but I will eat some whenever. It's a good source of protein, easy to prepare, and easy to pack for work.

Hey, if you want it then go for it. I would make it too. I don't understand people who refuse to use their ovens in the summer and stuff like that.

I use my oven all the time. If I didn't have air conditioning I might rethink that.
