Do not EVER buy this product!

I generally avoid buying food products at the Dollar Tree, but the other day I took a chance. I had once bought Andersen's Pea Soup at a dollar store, and it was the real deal and tasted great. I had a taste for chicken noodle soup, so I bought the product shown. When I opened the can, it smelled so nasty, I almost poured it out immediately. Then I tasted one small (1 cm^3) piece of carrot. It was mushy and tasted putrid. I turned on my disposal and poured the stuff out. I had to drink some cranberry juice to get the taste out of my mouth. Have you ever bought a food product that was so terrible you immediately threw it out? I'm going back to my old rule and never buying food (except for stale Boston Baked Beans and bottled Iced Tea) at the Dollar Tree.

I'm really not a fan of canned soup on general. I think they all taste pretty nasty.

I find that Trader Joe's canned New England Clam Chowder is actually quite good!

I never buy ready made canned food, I do not remember bad experiences about bad smelling food that I had to throw immediately.

@TheHorse I also buy canned tuna and sardines, never fruits. As much as I can, I prefer to buy dried beans to soak them in water and to cook them myself.

@LadyDuck They would taste fresher that way. I don't have the patience (in the kitchen).

De nada. The Boston Baked Beans (candy) I get there are usually stale, but they still taste good.

Did you notice if the can was swollen? If sounds more like it was a dud can rather than just a bad product.

It wasn't swollen. But it was slightly dented.

@TheHorse The general advice seems to be to not select cans that aren't perfectly shaped.

My store carries the brand names so I don't buy the off brand soups. Not all the canned goods are bad.

No, the soups I buy at Safeway and Trader Joe's tend to be OK.

@TheHorse The other soups that Dt sells can be good too. Not everyone has a trader joes or can afford the prices.

Our dollar stores seem to have their own brand food items as well as name brand. I would stick to the name brand if buying at the dollar store. The only food items (other than candy) that I have bought there were items for the food bank and all were big name brand products.

@TheHorse I didn't eat them, I donated them to the food bank. But I only bought name brand products. And the candy I buy there is also name brand.

I don`t buy much food there either because its usually stale, maybe salt or minced garlic. I actually don`t shop the dollar tree often. Live and learn.

On canned goods, you have to read labels to see where they came from. Some countries I would never get anything from.

I only buy my coffee and its accessories at the dollar store. Much less expensive than at the supermarket. I will keep it in mind to not buy the product you have displayed.

@arunima25 It wasn't swollen. I always check for that. But maybe the dent cause some air leakage. Glad I didn't dare eat the stuff. Except for that one blasted putrid carrot. There were no long-term effects.

@TheHorse It might have expired or the can was tampered and swollen. Once I did the mistake of buying an expired sauce bottle but I realized it before opening. I went back with the bottle and bill and replaced it.

I am scared to be buying some stuffs at dollar tree or some other dollar stores, like shampoo, lotion, deodorant, fresheners and yes some food too that Walmart doesn't have. They may be offering really cheap priced goods but then again it might be fake or expired :-(

@TheHorse Unfortunately there was a time that I bought a bath soap, my skin became dry :-( I also tried a beauty product, that didn't work either. With all those things that didn't work out, that was it for me. I wouldn't like to waste my money and irritate my skin too.

I have never tried any soup in can. the only canned goods i buy are corned beef, and meatloaf and pineapple chunks hehe. i think yes there are food like that and often they are those in the sealed package. i dont remember which one but i am sure i have had similar experience with food that does not taste really good i'd rather waste money throwing it out than me eating it but feel sick afterwards.

I don't think it has anything to do with the store, the store isn't the one that creates the food. Just some of the companies they supply are not that good. But I survived off many months of Dollar Tree foods and they are not too bad. But I'm also not too picky either.

Last week, at Dollar Tree, I bought burrito wraps. When I want to separate the wraps, the wraps tear. Then, I have a big mess. The wraps do taste good though. I spread pizza sauce, mushrooms and sprinkle some cheese, then I nuke for 1 minute.
