Saving money

I have always known that the more often you go to the store, the more money you spend, whether you need to or not.
Add to that, where we live now, it takes gas money to go anywhere.
So although I want to go out and buy stuff for new recipes, we are resisting. We have tons of food on hand, and could probably do without shopping for a month.
If there is anything we need, I will get it on Monday, as that is when we have another Doctor appointment to go to. Saves on gas money. Saves our time and energy.
Of course I will shop at discount stores, use my coupons, and get my Friday freebies as well. I have all weekend to prepare.
If I am really smart I will pack lunches for us as well. Saving money there as well.

I have been without money most of my life, and I should have saved more when I had more.

No, it is not easy to do. It is easier if I am not even tempted.

Sometimes they get tricky with the labels here and it does not always show price per pound. I am glad I am good at math. Also, those smaller packages, even if you buy several, are easier to carry and store.

@LadyDuck sometimes we have price per unit. So one brand of olive oil, for instance, will have a price per ounce and the next one might have price per pint. They are so tricky. It makes it hard to figure.

@GardenGerty It is mandatory here to state (on the shelf label) the price per pound.

We spent more this past month than usual just from what you said....running to the store more often. This month I really need to cut back

@marlina and @Marilynda I am holding off a bit on any food purchases until I get paid. I hope to have cleaned and organized the freezer and fridge by then so I know what I REALLY need.

@Marilynda1225 , Yes, because the more trips you do to the grocery store, the more one is tempted to get some "extra".

And save some of our energy for other things. Each trip out we make costs time and energy as well as gas.

@GardenGerty that's one of the reasons why we try to make one day of running around and doing our "little must be done things".

I would have to disagree with the beginning, out of experience. But everyones experience with things is different

So I should say the more often I go to the store the more I spend. I tend to linger, and look for "bargains." I do not like to bother to check out for just one or two items.

I love shopping for food but for my clothes or what, no. But like you, i really just want to do it twice a month to save time and money. I just dont know why when you have a lot, you will look for something not around, so your tendency is to shop again even if you dont have too. Hahahah but lately, i tried to resist.

I think shopping gets to be a habit or pass time. Just as eating does.

That's a good idea to go when you will already be out instead of making more trips....and all of your other ideas here as well (discount stores, coupons, packing lunches...etc)

The random running has been hard to stop hubby from doing. He would run somewhere every day, if he was feeling good.

I only go every other week to get groceries. I will sometimes stop if we have to get critter feed or have appointments on other days. But I try to keep it small when I do.

I could do that, if I would make menus again. I did in the past. That is part of why I need to do inventory in my freezers now. I can see what little canned goods I have. I will not overbuy on those.
