Ten pounds more for five dollars less

One of the places we went yesterday was Sam's Club. I am sad over the fact that there have been some substantial price increases. The wild bird food I have been buying went up, as did the toilet paper we buy. I had put my birdseed in the cart, even though it had a 5 dollar price increase. I went around the corner though and found 50 lb bags of a different brand of seed for around $15. Hopefully they like this brand as well as it was ten pounds more for five dollars less.

You always have to watch. Many stores have stopped putting cheaper items in eyesight of the higher ones. You always see the higher priced one first.

Sam's Club has huge pallets of stuff. I saw the other one first because it was what I had been using and had a brightly colored bag. The less expensive brand has a lot of white on the bag.

I am checking to see on the toilet paper if they have made bigger bundles. This had forty five rolls, and I think it used to have only thirty six.

We all have to make compromises at times, and even the birds aren't immune...

They seem glad to have whatever I provide. It could just be me that prefers the other. I can see more big black sunflower seeds and safflower kernels.

@BarBaraPrz At my old house I did. This is my first year to be feeding them at this house, but I am sure I will have volunteers from all the seeds.

It has a good variety, not as many of the larger seeds that the cardinals, blue jays and flickers enjoyed.

We pay 8$ for 20 lb bags here. I have to buy the seeds because I am running out and the birds do not like not to have seeds in their feeders.

I know. My feeders draw huge crowds of birds. Then they get down and clean around the ground for anything that spilled as well.

@Nana49 Sometimes they are, if there is plenty of food elsewhere. This one has what I think is sorghum in it, the other does not.

The brand I was buying was Member's Mark, both the seed and the TP. I still got Members Mark TP, but got Pennington bird seed. I think it was a new shipment, the pallet was piled so high.

I have been going through about forty pounds a month. I try to feed more if there is snow on the ground.

Good that you found something better. That's a huge size. I wouldn't want to carry it. Small bags of dirt are hard enough.

@GardenGerty just don't overdo things. At work there's a rule that anything 50 pounds or more needs two people to lift it. As we get older a lot of us overdo things too often and that can take longer to bounce back from.

Yes, one bird or another will come eat this food, especially with it being so cold.

If they don't particularly like it, they'd better get used to it hadn't they?

I hope it has lots of stuff like niger seed in it. Niger seed attracts finches and not so much starlings. Poor starlings. I guess they need to eat, too.

I have had small bags of the new kind before. This image is what I was using. The big bag is in a cart, parked outside and tied shut. I am pretty sure someone will like it.

I do not feel like it was really too pricey. $15 for 50 lbs is what I ended up paying. I also know where I can get some special seeds in bulk to add to it if I need to. I will have to check the prices online. Soon the weather will warm up and they will begin to be able to find their own food.
