Where we stand with Princess

Last night she looked so miserable and frail we were going to have her put to sleep today. Today she is a bit more lively. The vet gave us a nutritional supplement to give her daily and it seems to work. We feed her anything she wants and can swallow. She sleeps where she wants to sleep. Right now, that is the bathtub. I suspect as her body shuts down she is having some hot flash type symptoms. She is not in pain. If she were in pain we would get her some relief. It is very much just waiting for now, and spending time with her when she wants us. On the menu--herbal tea in her water, chicken livers from Bob, beef baby food, canned chicken, chicken broth, canned salmon, and coconut oil when she wants it. If she wants out, we let her out. Today it has been raining so she does not. She is strong enough to get up in the bed, but has not yesterday or today. It seems to be a matter of watchful waiting. She is walking more steadily today.

She has more strength and energy it seems each day. I am wondering if she were to get stronger if she could have surgery.

@LadyDuck After all I have read, at her age, surgery would not be a good choice.

@GardenGerty If you can avoid surgery is better, it is a big stress, she is no more young.

It's so hard to watch our beloved kritters as they get old and frail. I hope she'll start to get more energy. How old is she?

She is sixteen. She was born about this time of year. We found her in our yard in April.

@rebelann She does not seem ready to give up yet. She comes to us and demands stuff, and we guess until we get it right. When she was young she loved Mexican food. Today she wanted a taste of my homemade chili.

That is good the nutritional supplements seem to be helping. She is in good care with you and that yummy food you are feeding her.

Even without the supplement, she is very hungry. The inflammation is starting up again, though. We can tell by how she is holding her head. I did some more reading, and it is pretty obvious she will not really get better, or even well enough for surgery, which would be over $500, maybe $1000. Then she would need chemo, and radiation. Not very good prospects.

Yes, we actually had hoped she would just snooze out her days in peace, then this turns up.

That is the saddest part to have to watch our pets when we know the time has come.

@allknowing I wish that would happen for Princess. She wants to sleep on Bob's legs in bed. She fell off today.

Yes, friend. She is not done, but she is not well. It would be a blessing for her to lay down and not wake up. Hubby is very torn up. Over the years he has taken pets to be euthanized for me, as they would be in pain, but he cannot do it this time. He thinks she still has some time to enjoy.

@GardenGerty Happy for you. Herbal remedies can often help. I have Bambi on a recipe I found online 4 years ago when I felt a lump on her belly. It even shrank it at first. But the lumps do seem to try to grow at times. But without this I might have done lost her.

This is so sad but what a lucky cat to have you both looking out for what she wants and making her last days happy.
