Oh give me a break!

Hey beautiful people! I took this screenshot not too long ago because I wanted to show you guys and hear your opinions about this. I love watching infomercials. I love them because they amuse me. The acting is often very terrible, the testimonies seem fake and forced, and the techniques that is used to "convince" people are so cliche and overdone. It just amuses me. Don't get me wrong, a lot of products that come out are awesome especially if it's to do with health or making life easier. But otherwise, I'm not easily sucked in. But then there are infomercials that make me angry. Just like magazines, infomercials are great for making people feel like crap. They fill our heads with what's beautiful and what "isn't." They try to convince us that their way is the way to be "perfect." The screenshot I have attached is one of the examples I am talking about. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that person's stomach on the left! Nothing! I forget what this was for. Maybe shape wear or something. I know it's a technique to make people want to buy their product but it's a sick way of doing it. I remember years ago, there was a infomercial about some weight loss thing and this woman came on talking about the weight she lost and she said and I quote: "Goodbye love handles, hello love!" So....you're trying to convince me that being the size you're at now opens the door for true love? Bugger off! So shallow! I'm sorry but that stuff doesn't work on me and I think it's disgusting. I truly believe that no one on this Earth is ugly in looks. It's the media that is ugly.

@VivaLaDani13 There is one simple thing that people seem not to understand. Our body is like a "soft bag", if we fill it with more it can contain, it expands. There are no miracle products or diet, we must eat only what we need to eat and to exercise a bit to keep our muscles strong.

@LadyDuck Exactly. Well said. A lot can not grasp this. I also think people want a miracle product because they either don't have time to cook good meals / exercise or can't be bothered cooking good meals / exercise.

@LadyDuck I absolutely agree with you. And so many people waste money on items that you can get the same results from for a lot cheaper or for free.

I once tried this informercial, it was a scar remover. It really looked so convincing so i tried, it was expensive of course. But to my dismay, it never worked. From that time on, i have never believed what i see on tv.

@VivaLaDani13 yes. The best we do now, is to read reviews, because the recent one we wish to buy was a scratch remover for a car. When we read the reviews, it didnt work.

@VivaLaDani13 Dani, there is a lot out there that is crap and people like to get people to buy things they do not need to buy.

@Hannihar I completely agree with you. I hate how brainwashed people can be but in a way, don't blame them for being that way. Commercials are good are persuading those who don't have the willpower to think on their own. I hope that makes sense.

@VivaLaDani13 So are dictators. I have seen how people follow someone blindly and it is very sad. They do not see the person for what they are and so the person fools them all. It is very sad.

@Hannihar That is so true! Well said Hanni! It is so disturbing how easy it is to persuade the masses even if it's with evil intentions!

@porwest Oh man don't even get me started! I'm really sick of hearing people say "I heard that this was a good product!" While trying to defend something they haven't even tried yet and those people they heard were from TV. Puh-lease!

@VivaLaDani13 I was glad to hear you say how many of the testimonials seem fake. Every time I watch one of these I scratch my head thinking, "How could anyone believe these are real testimonials?"

@MommyOfEli2013 Thank you for checking this out. This stuff just makes me so angry! This doesn't help people who have self esteem issues but hey what do they care! Long as they are making their money!

@MommyOfEli2013 I'm sorry you're affected by it. I am too. The more this sort of thing is pushed, the more people think that there is a certain way we "should" look. It's not right at all.

Whatever the product is I doubt is is capable of reshaping someones ribs, and the first picture is perfect , if people with stomachs like that are trying to change themselves then there is no hope!

I had to look twice. Actually, more than twice, to see the difference between the two images. After losing a lot of weight, I'm still more like the one on the left (but more saggy!) Both look healthy enough. Admittedly, I found love after I had lost weight. And I'm not sure my other half would have looked twice at me if I was still as big as I was. But I lost weight for me because I needed and wanted to. That's the way it should be. We should not feel it necessary to change things about ourselves just to please other people.

@VivaLaDani13 Thank you :) I was already beautiful - as you can see from my profile picture :D :D It's important to be healthy but also to be happy. It's no good trying to make ourselves look better on the outside if we don't feel good on the inside.

@pumpkinjam Oh that made me laugh! Really caught me off guard lol oh I needed that thank you! But in all seriousness yes, you were and are. I know I have no clue what you look like but beauty is everything. Not what the media is feeding us. Tall, short, fat, thin, dark, light etc etc. ALL beauty! Exactly right! You're very level headed!

@pumpkinjam Hey congrats on losing weight! I'm proud of you for doing so! Just only because it makes us feel better about ourselves but because it does make up more healthy and able to be more energetic etc. Well done! And I totally agree with you. It really should be about us. To feel good about how we look. But of course it then makes us more confident and comfortable to go out with people especially someone you're dating or someone you're trying to impress so I understand that completely also.

I remember wTching Miss America years ago. They gave height, weight and measurements of these voluptuous women. I know form working with women of many sizes that the weights could not possibly have been accurate. If I'm 5' 8" and weigh 110 lbs....it's not physically possible to look healthy and have The measurements they claimed.

@Morleyhunt No worries. I understand what you mean. I just don't like how things like that teaches young women or any woman of any age really, that a specific way is beautiful. Any age, any colour, any size etc is ALL beautiful. But I will admit, I am one of the women who thinks I'm ugly due to bullying and media such as that. The world is becoming more and more superficial. And of course boys / men are affected too. They also have "role models" of how they "should" look.

We are all beautiful and body size does not matter. Beauty inside will always be most important, or should be. If we all worked as hard on our inner beauty as we do on the outer-what a wonderful world this would be! =)
