Fancy a pint?

I was looking for a particular photo, which I didn’t find, but I came across this one which I took when we visited Bushmills Distillery in Northern Ireland. The outdoor setting has been created from old barrels. Tub-shaped chairs like these are remarkably comfortable. We have two in our lounge although they’re not made from barrels. I enjoy seeing creative recycling like this. I think we could easily replicate these but the hard part would be the cushioning. I am absolutely useless on a sewing machine. Maybe it’s not too late for me to learn.

i love that re-purposin', too :) i'm thinkin' yer mighty handy 'n 't'd not take ya long to figure out how's to go 'bout makin' cushions fer such. that pipin' might be a lil tricky? then 'gain, i believe they've a foot fer such - where ya lay yer fabric, then the cord 'n 't sorta wraps 't o'er 'n puts all'n place while ya stitch. ran 'cross such not long 'go'n youtube, i believe? 'tis ne'er too late to learn somethin' new!

@JudyEv bless yer heart, ms. judy! i'm startin' to feel the same here 's i've been strugglin' with a certain new-to-me quilt block pattern. 'tis'n absolute disaster thus far 'n i've nary a clue 's to why....'ve thought 'f jest puttin' 't all (machine/fabrics - all 'f 't) o'er 't mamaw's lil house. jest so's i'm not tempted to fiddle with 't. screwed'p 2 more blocks jest this more, sigh...

When it comes to me and sewing machine, I very much fear it is much too late for me to learn.

Either that or find cusions you really like and then fashion chairs to accommodate them

I want to know what they used to fix up. in between firm seat.. wood? And cushions can be oversized a bit they won't look ugly on this.

Sewing the cushions is not the big problem, the hard part is to make the right shape of the cushion that has to be nailed to the barrel.

She should have taken another picture after lifting the cushion so that she would know she is not gonna sink and sink into it...you know anything can happen.. when least expected.

I used to make clothes for my sons when they were little. I really don't have the patience now. I've tried lots of times.

@vandana7 Maybe they still store whiskey in the barrel - under the cushion.

@JudyEv In my house, I have a rug that my grandmother made of bread wrappers. It looks very similar.

Almos everything can be repurposed in some way I think. I might have shown you this mat before. It's made out of string which ties hay bales together.

@snowy22315 It's amazing how they can use bread wrappers for mats and other items. I saw a photo of a wedding dress made out of wrappers once and it looked really nice. I don't think you could do that with string.

Chairs that roll can be quite dangerous. They'd be better perhaps with brakes.

I just absolutely know I couldn't make decent cushions. But we'd save so much on making the chairs I could perhaps afford to have them made.

only one pint? we are rationing now? I love the chairs. The decorator in charge at my house would not, however, allow such in the house!
