Can I Become a Morning Person?

Good morning MyLotters. As you all know I am not a morning person and for the last few weeks, I have not been sleeping well at all. I have managed to sleep 3 nights in a row with at least 4 hours of straight sleep. I have been getting up with hubby to help get him off to work again. This brings me to wonder, "Can I become a morning person?" I could, but I don't think these early mornings are really my cup of tea. For one, I'm sleepy again after being up for two hours. I think of @Just4him when I think of someone being an early riser. I know she takes a nap in the day, but later on. I wonder if my early morning nap would suffice? I think I am going to try this routine as long as I naturally wake up at 3:30, 4:30 or 5:30. If I take a nap and sleep for 2 hours, I can still get back up for 8 to 8:30 at which time my mother needs to be awake and moving around. I know whenever I have a plan, things change. I got up at 4 today, but I was in bed before 9 last night. My "sleep in" hubby got up at 5 for most of five years to meet the schedule he set for himself at work. Give it a try, it could work for you.

That is the typical case here also.

Your plan could work. I'm not always an early riser but this morning I was. As for naps, well I don't plan those but if I fall asleep later I'll just let it be.

Thing is I can't just go take a nap when I want to. I have to be alert with my mom's condition and notice what she is doing during the day.

That's hard @kareng being a caregiver makes what you do very different. I wish you the best as I know how hard this is for you.

I never woke up before 5:30 a.m., from 5:30 to 6 a.m. is my routine, it depends if I go to sleep at which time I go to sleep, but it's never after 11 a.m.

@kareng You have to do what is good for you. I am an early riser too. Try it out and see how it goes.

That could be the problem. Getting up early leaves me tired for the rest of the day and caring for my mom.

@Hannihar All depends on the day and what happened the previous day as to how tired I am.

@kareng So what time is good for you to get up and not feel tired with all you have to do?

when I was 18 I made fun of my grandfather and father. They were both morning people. When I became a school teacher I quickly realized, starting slow was dangerous! I became a morning person!

It does sound like a good plan. I think that you can become a morning person. It might not be easy at first, but with time, it'll get easier.

Haha! How timely your discussion is for me.. touch wood. I'm not a morning person as well, but just from today, I've planned to get up early to get on to my walking regime. I've been planning this for a while, but couldn't make it due to various other reasons. My husband was very particular of me getting up early, so I can concentrate on my health too. When I'm waking up along with my daughter, I could not give my best to my health as it's really like a running episode. My whole time goes for house chores and other errands.. My suggestion to you is : it's really possible to get on to this schedule. It all takes a week's time for adjusting your time. Once you sleep early, your waking up time also changes and you will start to like this for ever. Passing my full cheers to you and thank you for your timely post. It motivates me too.

I'm not an early riser at all so I can't help with your plan. I don't drag myself out of bed until 8 or 8:30 each morning and then I rely on coffee to kickstart the day.

It’s worth a shot. I’m a semi early riser. If I do nap in the afternoon, I still fall asleep as soon as my head hits the pillow at bedtime.

Usually, that is the case with me too. All this commotion with the brother has me mad and sad, therefore, hard to tune it out when I go to sleep.

I think that's a good plan. I had my nap already this morning, and it worked well for me. I needed to run the dishwasher before I made breakfast, so I did so, and took my nap, knowing the dishwasher would be done or almost done by the time I got up again. It all works out. You can do anything you put your mind to.

I stay up all night and catch an hour here or there. I say if you can't sleep, don't fight it. Get up and do something. When your body wants to sleep again it will let you know.

That's pretty much how I feel about it. I just have to make sure I don't wake the man up since he is still working and has to get up at 5:30. Also, I don't want to bother my mom.

We are just going to see what happens here. Last few mornings I have awakened before the dreaded alarm. I've gotten 4-5 hours of sleep. This will require a nap sometime during the day. Either after hubby leaves for work or later in the day. My mom naps but not for long. If it is 1.5 hours, that is good for here. Usually it is more like 45 minutes.

So far we are only getting 5 hours of sleep max. If this keeps up, the routine will be changing but a nap will be in order. I'm tired this morning.

I'm seeing here that making plans don't really work at all so I'm going to stick with a going day by day thing for now.
