The next time your sinuses are blocked, try humming.

Nitric Oxide is one of the components that helps kill bad bacteria in your sinus cavity. A study was done on humming versus single, quiet exhales and humming was found to produce more Nitric Oxide. The study was done on ten non-smoking male subjects between the ages of 34-48 years. I'll link to the info I found on this which provide more in-depth explanations to this interested.

I'm going to start humming for days straight! I had a CT scan of my head today to find out why I'm having headaches for over three months, so I'm hoping it's "just" sinus issues.

@1creekgirl “sinus issues” looks strange with all those ’s’es and little else. Okay, so it’s late here.

@scribbledadnauseum I’m tempted to ask what tune is best to hum but I’ll not.

I am hoping I'll remember as well, just to test it out. I've hummed loudly and noticed that it does seem to vibrate the sinuses.

Yes, I've tried it as well. A weird tingle, I guess it must work somewhat then.

@rebelann My throat has been itchy today and I've taken allergy pills. I might be developing a cold. Might be able to test this out for myself soon.

I've hummed and can feel my sinuses vibrating. However, it takes a strong hum to accomplish it.

@LadyDuck I feel as if I might be catching a cold. I've taken allergy medicines but they do not seem to do anything for me. I wake up every morning to a scratchy throat. If my sinuses end up being blocked, I may try this.

I am going to try to remember this when I am having sinus problems. Do my own testing on whether it works or not.

I'm going to keep this in mind when my sinuses act up. With the winter coming I tend to have more sinus issues than during the warmer months.

In a peculiar kind of meditation the same humming sound is made while pronouncing 'OM' which may be because of a similar reason probably. While ending the chanting of Om, that 'mmmm' extension would sound like humming.

Oh, is that so? i did not know this. I had never heard of this form of meditation either, or perhaps I know it but not it's name.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I perhaps mentioned it wrong , it must be a breathing exercise called Pranayaam.

I have sinus infections especially when the weather changes to fall. Time to start humming along to my music!

I hope it works. I am going to try it the next time my sinuses are clogged to see if it works.
