It's Not A Bell At All

I was thinking about my dinner a few nights ago from Taco Bell while I was on the road traveling, and remembered that a LOT of people have no idea that the Bell in the name Taco Bell has nothing at all to do with an actual bell, and that familiar dong we hear in all of their commercials. The name Taco Bell is actually based on the name of the founder, Glen Bell, who opened up the restaurant initially in 1948 in San Bernardino, CA with the name Bell's Drive-In. ...and now you know...

@porwest Do you go to trivia nights? We went to a few in the city but there was a group of very knowledgeable people who would go to all the trivia nights and take off all the prizes, some of which were pretty substantial.

@JudyEv We've done it a couple of times, but it's not a regular thing for us.

I have a lot of worthless trivia in my brain. Maybe one day it will have a payoff? Probably not. But I can keep my fingers crossed.

How funny - I never knew that! I have heard about conspiracy theories on how the logo is an Illuminati sign, but well, that's a little out there.

Yeah. I guess people can find nefariousness or controversy in anything. There were Christian groups swearing the Monster Beverage logo was a sign of the devil. lol

@porwest Oh geez . People could really read into anything . . . it doesn't mean that's what it was meant to be .

lol. This kind of reminds me of those old Pace commercials when the cowboys would be around the campfire and realize their salsa was from New York City. lol

@rebelann I can do without the hot. I can't stand spicy. Ruins the flavor of my food. lol I like things to complement the flavor of the food. Not become the only flavor of my food.

That's interesting. It helps when a name has an object to relate to. I know that Taco Bell is American Mexican, but years ago I ate some authentic Mexican food made by women from Mexico. It really wasn't very good to me, but then I realized that some women are just not good cooks, no matter where they come from.

I am often surprised when visiting Mexico that the food is quite similar to what we get here at "genuine" Mexican restaurants. A lot of other foods are not like that. Much of what we get here is Americanized, and Italian is one of them. Whenever I have had authentic Italian it has always been very bland, and frankly not worth eating. Blame my American palate. lol

@porwest When I went to NYC for a Mother's Day weekend one year, we ate at a couple of nice French restaurants and I was not impressed.

@1creekgirl One thing about "authentic cuisine," it's not usually as good as the Americanized version. I think it's just the way our palates are here. If you don't Americanize something, it is going to be bland. Foreigners get offended when we say that. But it is true. Americans just have a different taste and we like bold flavors.
