Got Another Free Quarter At Aldi Today

Gosh. Some days it amazes me how cheap I am, and even how excited I get over a quarter for crying out loud. But lo and behold...I do.
Today we pulled up into the Aldi parking lot and as I was waiting for my wife and my mom to get out of the truck, a lady asked me if I needed a cart. "Sure," I told her. When I went to hand her the quarter for it she said, "No. Don't worry about it. Someone gave this cart to ME."
BUT, do you think I would pay it forward and offer that free cart to another person?
Are you nuts?
Not my cheap ass. I am up a quarter baby, and no one's getting my quarter except my coin jar, thank you very much.

A quarter saved is 25 pennies earned.

You sound like my partner. He picks up every coin he sees on the ground. No wonder he's got so much money!

I saw a quarter on the ground underneath the feet of another woman at Ali in the bagging area. I had my eye on it and was ready to pick it up. She left and some other woman took her cart over there. I was like, "Really?" I didn't get my extra quarter.

The concept that Aldi uses I have heard serves two purposes. One is to keep the costs down by not having to have someone go out and get the carts brought back in. The other is to ENSURE people put the carts back where they belong and not leave them. Most people want their quarter back. So, yes, in a way, you are renting a cart, BUT also have a reason to not be a tool and leave them scattered all over the parking lot.

@porwest sounds a great plan, wish they'd such here. nothin' like havin' a shoppin' cart hittin' yer auto whilst yer'n the store due to our high winds'n someones neglect.

@crazyhorseladycx You know it. You saying you don't have any Aldi stores where you live? You out in the boonies or something?

I don't think I would give up the quarter either.

@porwest Yep. I remember once I found three quarters neatly stacked on top of each other on a bench at my train station. I took them of course but wondered why they were neatly stacked. If someone accidentally dropped them they wouldn't be that way.

@lovebuglena Yeah. That is curious. The ONLY time I pass up on a quarter is when I see one sitting in a urinal, which I see often. Not touching those. Nope, no way. I am sure I HAVE some quarters that HAVE been in a urinal a time or two though. But best not to think about that.

I have to admit I have done the same, other times I give the cart to an old person, other times I give my quarter away, aka cart, to another.
Can`t always take, gotta give a little too.

@porwest EXCEPT for the part about being friends in real life. As long as you would go out to eat with us a couple times a month...
