I wasted my time at school!

Yep, my time at school was pretty much a waste of my time. I hated school and didn't try very hard. I left with no qualifications - I didn't even hang around for the final exams! There were times I regretted that but, after a while, I found a good job, a good woman and a good life. I'll be damned if I know how that happened to a lazy kid from the poor part of town but it did. Yes, my schooldays were a waste of time but that didn't have any long-term effect on my life!

I did not like to go to school and I simply hated the catholic school that my parents had chosen for me. I did a lot better in life when I finished to go to that school and I started my working life.

I hated to go to school and be educated by the Catholic Nuns. But I have to admit that they were good teachers and we had good discipline then, not like today.

@ScotMac I went to school in Italy and the educational system there is not the best. You learn plenty of useless things and not what you need to know.

I followed pretty much the same road. I learned more useful stuff after I left school

I did not much like school but I had to go and got good grades. Then, college was very interesting. It was what I had chosen.

@ScotMac You were lucky to find a job you liked with no preparation.

I never went to college and I am grateful for that. I just worked hard, stayed frugal, and saved and invested my money. It would have been a waste of time and money for me.

You can't say the time you spent in time was a waste of time whatever you are today is because of that. Perhaps we might not come across you today had you not been to school. As far as I am concerned the school time is the best time of my life.

@ScotMac we may differ in perception but as far as i am concerned, what you can learn in school can not be learnt outside it.

As far as I'm concerned most of my school years could simply have been bypassed. Reading, Riting and Rithmetic were the only useful things I learned at school Unfortunately, my spelling wasn't too good!

I guess not everyone like school. But loving your life is different whether you go to school

Many people do find school boring and tedious. I loved going to school soaking up as much information as I could get hold of except maths. I am utterly and totally useless at maths I think the maths teachers we had were harsh horrible and not nice people. Qualifications are not the be all and end all of life. It is what you do with your life that is important! You are an example of that!

There are many who have had incredible success in life without having been a particularly good scholar. I guess it all depends on the person. Good for you for making yourself a good life.

Some of the richest people in the world never even stepped foot in a college, and there are a handful of billionaires who were even high school dropouts.

I didn't care for school either and because of that I really didn't give it my all. I know I could have done better with my grades.

@ScotMac you got that right! I know a lot of people who have degrees in a certain subject but their current job doesn't reflect that.

If I had stuck in at school I may well have had qualifications but that wouldn't have been any guarantee of a decent job. I know quite a few highly-qualified people who have spent a surprisingly long time flipping burgers!

You are lucky to have these blessings . Times have come when children are made to work hard in school , yet they remain unemployed and unsuccessful in life.

I was in the same boat, thought school was a waste of time. I felt the things they taught us was a waste of time. I have learned oh so much more after school than I did in school. I did become rich and famous and I didn't find the cure for cancer but I have done alright in life so far.

@porwest A lot of things have changed or realized they didn't teach us the correct things.

@Bensen32 I still think schools should be teaching about money management, saving, investing, how to compute and understand compound interest and things like that. I also found that there was too much repeat stuff through the years. Even colleges waste of ton of time. I mean, if I am studying to be an accountant, why do I need to take classes on quantum physics?

The best lessons in life are the ones we learn on our own, I have found. School, for me too, was a complete waste of time.

I did not like school and did poorly in my early years, then I found out that making good grades was something I could do better than my much older sister, so I did. I never knew what I wated to do, but I have done a lot of things that I liked, and some I did not.

Somebody suggested me this discussion although I am not very qualified as I studied during 19 years and enjoyed my school and college years. However I can rely somewhere as I have chosen a job having nothing to do with my studies where I had to learn many things by myself. I studied law, I became a ground archeologist. I got an equivalence of diplomas which was not obvious. The problem since many decades in France is that you cannot do any job, even selling pizzas in a truck, without a school diploma, so "self made men" like you are very rare.
