Did You See the Full Moon Last Night?

Saturday, February 8, 2020 we had a full moon. I wanted to post this yesterday, but got busy and then when I had to run out and run errands time got away from me. I was tired when I got home so didn't post it. February's full moon is called the Full Snow Moon. The reasoning behind the name is that there is more snow falling in February than any other month of the year. The term Full Snow Moon was something I had never heard before. This confirms that you can never be too old for learning and something that I hope I can always do, learn more! I caught the full moon as I was running my errands late yesterday. It was beautiful and a sight to see. It really wasn't anything different from other full moon in my opinion, just a different name for the month of February. Did you catch the Full Snow Moon last night? Have you ever heard the term Full Snow Moon before? Photo Credit: Pixabay, public domain

You must have stayed indoors. No clouds in Sunny California.

Well, we had no rain and clear skies since before Christmas and guess what? It rained last night.

My first thought was and "who came up with this?" It was nice to see it was native Americans. I wonder why that tradition wasn't continued?

@just4him Yes, and I bet the other moons were also named each month.

@kareng That's interesting it was Native Americans who came up with the term.

We did, the wife and I, on our way to Longhorn. But I did not know it was full snow moon. Just a full moon. Either way, I kept my eye out for werewolves.

I'm glad they didn't get you! I can't believe than most of us had never heard the term before. Now I want to know what all the other full moons were called.

@porwest Maybe, but the Indians had names for most things which makes me think every month a full moon occurs they gave it a name. I found it!! Check this out:
Native American and other traditional names for full Moons used to track the seasons.

it was amazing. I had to get out of the house for a bit. We watched the movie Once upon a time in Hollywood. It was a bit more violent than I thought it would be.

That sounds like a movie I should avoid. I get enough of the gruesome stuff in real life in law enforcement family.

This is absolutely a gorgeous image, I was hoping it was yours. I saw the moon the next morning, before it was light. Yes, it seems we have given a name to each moon, possibly capitalizing on names the Native Americans have had.

I researched the topic and wrote an article that will be published over at Virily and yes, the native Indians had a special name for the full moon every month! It was interesting

I was looking for it, but it was too cloudy last night, but it did light up the sky! Our condo is having a Howl at the Moon party tonight, but we have long-standing plans to go out with a group of friends. I will look for it tonight anyway.

How neat! I bet the party was fun. Sorry it was cloudy for you. We are partly cloudy today with clouds coming back in for a rainy week. What is going on with all this rain here? But on a good note, the temperatures will be in 60's and 70's. Win!

@DianneN For the most part it was nice today. Warm temps but on the windy side. The sun was out for several hours and now it is clouding up. It is supposed to start raining before day break tomorrow and through Tuesday. Then scattered showers and thunderstorms for the remainder of the week. Ugg. At least it won't be cold and rainy!

I haven't heard of this term but we don't have much snow in Australia. Actually, we have more snow than Switzerland so perhaps they know the term in the snowfields.

I had never heard it before either. There was an article in Women's Health about it. Now I wonder if they have special names every time?

It looked like any other full moon. I wonder who started the new names? The article was in Woman's Health. It stated that the native north Americans used to name the moons. I suppose that would be the Indians. So that makes sense.
