Gourmet Grilled Cheese Sandwiches Tonight?

So, you've all done it. Well, there are several of you culprits here who have posted several times about grilled cheese sandwiches, and every time one is mentioned my mouth has watered just a little bit more.
You all are incorrigible. You know that, right?
So, for dinner tonight I will finally make my grilled cheese sandwiches. Yes, with some tomato soup to dip them in.
But in all of my comments, while I did say how good a grilled cheese sandwich would be, it would never qualify as a 'dinner meal' for me.
So, here is what I am going to do to both satisfy my craving AND qualfy it as a meal.
I will prepare the sandwiches as normal. You know, butter the bread and put the cheese in there. BUT, I am going to also grill some onions. I'll put those on there. The cheese will be a combination of sharp cheddar and Colby jack. I am going to put some ham in them as well. I will start them in a pan just to mainly brown the bread.
Then I will get the oven going and finish them off in there. That should get the internals heated nicely and the cheese melted finely.
Don't worry. They won't be in the oven that long. Just enough to really melt that cheese. I am using premium slices. And the bread is some premium bread too.
This should be tasty as all get out.
P.S. The image is not MY grilled cheese. I will see if I can get a picture of my finished product and I will share with an update as to how it all turned out.

@FayeHazel Have not made them yet. But now I am going to have to sprinkle some garlic powder onto them. Thanks.

@Marty1 Yeah. At least with the powder you can spread the flavor around a bit more. Of course, I COULD toss some minced garlic in with the onions I am going to grill up and that would probably accomplish the same goal. Hmm. I might just do that.

This was the first grilled cheese I have had in yonks as well. My wife and I, in fact, have been married for 13 years and together 15 and I have never made a grilled cheese during that time if that's telling you how long of a yonk it has been.

@porwest I am willing to try most things except organ meat, octopus, and weird stuff like eyeballs and stuff. I do have a list of things I don't like (olives, sundried tomatoes, fresh tomatoes, raw mushrooms, etc.) but I am still willing to try new things.

Grilled cheese I would say goes best with tomato soup. No tomato soup right now. I have cream cheese and like toasted cream chesse right now. Enjoy your grilled cheese. The onions were a good touch. That is interesting. you do not fry the grilled cheese but do it in the oven. That is very interesting. You hvae an interesting process of making your grilled cheese.

Yum. Now you are making me want grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup, even though I never ate them together growing up. As I recall, we had vegetable soup with them. I know that's weird, but none of us liked tomato soup.

I like to add some bacon strips to a grilled cheese.

A grilled "ham" and cheese a little twist on a popular sandwich. Add a little "green eggs" and you can invite Dr. Seuss.
A great go-to easy to make sandwich for sure!!!

Sounds delicious! I am a fan of grilled cheese sandwiches. But now since I am on keto, I can’t have any carbs anymore

That sounds like that would be real good! I sometimes cook grilled cheese sandwiches to go with what ever soup I'm having, since soup to me is not all that filling.
