4-roll pack of toilet paper selling for about $72 on amazon

I hopped onto Amazon to see if there is any toilet paper available. I don't need any but was just curious to see if it's in stock. The mega rolls of the brand I use weren't even in the search results. The brand itself was though but it is currently unavailable and the message said "We don't know when or if this item will be back in stock." And that message was also on other brands as well. So what do people do who are out of toilet paper? Then I stumbled upon some brand of toilet I never heard of. It was a 4-roll pack. The paper is made from recycled paper and has a shelf life of 730 days. I had no idea toilet paper expires. The price was $72.43 or something like that. And it seems it's sold by Amazon and not a third-party seller. This is ridiculous. That's price gouging.

Toilet paper expires? That's almost funnier than the whole toilet paper shortage... and thwhole Coronavirus thing combined... I'm sorry... I have never seen the craziest people in my life. Are people breathing air? Where's the candid cameras? This is beyond ridiculous. $72 for a 4 pack of frigging toilet paper? What the hell are these people DOING with it?

Well it's made from 100% recycled paper... But still, it would have to be covered in gold or diamonds to be that expensive. And I learned something today... apparently toilet paper expires.

I heard there was some woman in Australia who ordered 48 packs of toilet paper rather than 48 rolls or something like that.

There are a few other toilet papers still on Amazon for a much better price. I did see one commercial roll (750 feet!) for 86.89

@peavey I saw my brand of toilet paper (Quilted Northern) available in Supreme (though sold out currently), which is bigger than Mega. I am not sure how big that is but I don't think it would fit the toilet paper holder either.

It's time we all start reporting these price gougers. That's illegal. And if Amazon is doing it directly, then a complaint should be filed with not only the Better Business Bureau, but also your state's Department of Consumer Affairs.

@lovebuglena If people are paying attention to the context of your comments, they'll understand that it should be gouging and not gauging.

I just realized I used the term gouging in some comments I made on mylot and I think I misspelled it as gauging.

I wasn't in panic mode before but now I am starting to slightly panic. I have 18 rolls (maybe a few more), which should last me more than a month, but have a feeling that when I run out there won't be anything for sale and I will be left with nothing. I didn't stock up like others.

This toilet paper thing is getting ridiculous! It's sold out here as well. Not a single roll to be found in town. It's unsettling, I guess for the rest of us who didn't rush out and buy toilet paper in bulk, we are completely out of luck. I don't know about you but I'm not paying $72 for toilet paper!

@lovebuglena I'm hearing that as quickly as shipments come in they are gone within 20 minutes. So unless we know exactly when a shipment is coming. Being at the store when it comes in would be the only way to get some. And, we'd probably have to fight for it as well.

I wouldn't even pay half as much for it. As I don't need any toilet paper for now I did not go from store to store looking for it but my local supermarket is still out. The whole toilet paper/paper towel aisle looks like a ghost town.

That's nuts. I saw 6 cans of soup on Walmart's site selling through a 3rd party for $80. That's also price gouging!

@LindaOHio Exactly. Prior to this Corona Virus pandemic I ordered 18 mega roll pack from Amazon. This should last me at least a month I would think. But now I am thinking... when I run out will I be able to buy anything in the brand I use? Based on Amazon and my local supermarket doesn't look promising.

No thanks I'll go to the store right behind me and pay $3.99 for a 4 Pack lol, but I bought my Scott before this all started.

@lovebuglena They do! She's strictly limiting the amount a customer can buy and I have enough to get me through a month.

Wow! That’s one expense wipe! Baby wipes will be next!! Since all the toilet paper is going poof! Then that leaves people with children in a rut. Well, I guess we either need to use reusable cloths or recycle newspapers and magazines which is not sanitary!
