It may not work, but it cannot hurt

The internet and news are both filled with suggestions on how to avoid the COVID19.
Some have been proven to work. Others have not. They may even have been shown to be ineffective.
What works for sure: avoiding contact with carriers, if possible
washing hands with soap and water for 20 seconds or more
covering your cough or sneeze helps others
cleaning with products containing chlorine bleach, or alcohol
staying well hydrated
don't touch your face
Everyone's body reacts differently. Other suggestions that have not been proven:
nasal saline rinses
gargle with salt water or vinegar water
use essential oils, like the "thieves blend"
use peroxide to clean
Just for good measure a little bit of historical information:
In some of the other viral outbreaks it has been demonstrated that people who had fresh air got better quicker.
Exposure to sunshine was beneficial. It helps your body produce Vitamin D.
So, eat healthy, avoid crowds, if you run a high fever or are in respiratory distress see a doctor. Enjoy some fresh air and sunshine and
WASH YOUR HANDS WITH SOAP
(Using soap breaks down the lipid covering of the virus making it easier to destroy.)
None of these measures will hurt you, unless you substitute them for needed medical care. They may help you feel better, in fact. If you feel like you have the power to do something it goes a long way.

@GardenGerty But also, disinfecting requires the substance to sit on the surface longer then just a cleaning solution would when we wipe down surfaces.

@Juliaacv The spray I use on the changing table works on that method. Instead of wiping it, you let it air dry. My bus driver cleans buses for our small district. She says they have a disinfecting fogger and she has been using it all season.

That could be. It also could be that you are not in crowds so much and that you are not near a major travel hub bringing in sick travelers. All of it combined goes a long way to help.

@rebelann I had not thought of it that way. I lived in the San Diego area quite a while and it was just a five minute drive from our neighborhood in Imperial Beach to Tijuana. I guess I was thinking of overseas travel. Europe and Asia, and of ports, etc. Now that you mention it, you may see a whole lot more traffic than we are seeing.

That depends on what you mean. I think you mentioned you've been through El Paso, did you happen to notice the Mexican Mountains on the south side of I10?
Did you happen to go to downtown El Paso where you can walk across the border crossing into downtown Juarez?
At least 70% of the Hispanic Americans here have extended families in Juarez as well as in deeper parts of Mexico and they are often visiting one another either here or there and of the families I know they always seem to be huge.
Celebrations for things like Quinceañeras, general birthdays, weddings and wedding anniversaries can bring over 200 family members here just for one of those celebrations.
So yeah, El Paso does have a major travel hub between 2 countries.

Yes, we all hope for that. I look for them to extend the break an extra week. It is just my hunch.

All schools in the state are closed (buildings) through May 31, maybe longer. We will have school in some form though.

@GardenGerty Right now ours are only closed until the beginning of April. But they might extend that.

Our PE teacher is very much a germaphobe, but she sees all the kiddos every day and they handle all the equipment with hands in their mouths or noses all the time.

@DianneN She is retiring this year. Not so much because of that but because she sees our special needs students becoming more violent and out of control daily.

Much of this is common sense, but we know that common sense is not always common.

@GardenGerty I think they need to change the name to 'uncommon sense'.

I have some things I must do away from home, but they are very few. I am just enjoying the relaxing time.

@GardenGerty I am enjoying it also. It's kind of nice not to have to go out and about.

I am so wishing for some sunshine. I know we would feel better. Meanwhile I am cleaning and doing projects here at home.
