Job cuts and playing Ticket to Ride

A bit against our better judgement, we went to dinner with three friends last night. We took what precautions we could and hopefully nothing will come of it. One guy runs a business hiring out marquees, tables, chairs, pie warmers, etc for weddings, festivals and the like. He has had to put off six casual staff and one full-time worker. He says if this goes on till Christmas, he’ll have to close his business. He always gave us chairs for free for our indoor music concerts. Coronavirus numbers in Australia continue to climb. It seems many are not taking the risk seriously especially on the beaches where there are crowds of people and no thought of maintaining any distance between each other. At the moment, we’re waiting for our son and his wife to ring from Ireland. We going to play Ticket to Ride with them online. I hope I win!!

@JudyEv We are not paranoid, but seriously concerned. Living so close to Italy is stressing, I am glad that the border is now closed.

Thanks for the good wishes. Damian and his wife seem to be coping well. His wife is paranoid about the virus. She has anxiety issues, etc, etc but she seemed happy enough last night. We could talk to them both while we played.

@JudyEv They are not thinking of their families. Most in that age range will be ok but they could give it to older family members that might not.

Ticket to Ride is a board game and shown in the photo but you can play online with others. We hooked up with our son and daughter in Dublin, Ireland, and their friend in Belfast. We could talk to each other and made our moves on our screens. I hope all that makes sense.

@arunima25 It was a fun evening. If you ring each other too often, it's possible to run out of conversation so having a game makes a nice diversion.

I have self isolated myself since WHO called it pandemic. I do not want to be infected. I do want to infect the politicians of my country, but I haven't any access to them. So the only option left for me is to not be infected. Here the rich hear the news, realize it can survive for 3 days and still do not bother. They jostle against each other at parties. Most of them have relatives abroad or travel abroad. Press too - the channels on one side keep announcing six feet distance, on the other hand they are at less than 1 feet from politicos other colleagues and police for statements, shake hands at parties, and yesterday there was the final part of Nirbhaya case. You would have been surprised how many people were standing close to one another, interviewing the advocate, the mother of the girl was being held and so on and so forth. Nah, we have genes that need to disappear. We don't need genocides, or pogroms. We will do it to ourselves.

I think your last few sentences say it all. There are some genes that need to disappear. What hope of controlling the spread with so many taking no heed. Their money and/or fame won't save them.

Right now all of our bars and restaurants are closed. It is having a devastating effect on some businesses already and certainly the workers. Only time will tell how MUCH of an impact this ultimately has. More important than ever to do all we can to support our small business.

The casual workers won't have any sick leave or holiday pay coming. They will be hit very hard. Our friend said he felt really awful putting people off but he will be battling not to go under as it is.

I hope you followed all the precautions. And not in a very crowded place. Even some people in India did not pay heed and a recent case has come where a singer came back from UK. She was not detected having covid 19 earlier and went to a party hosting 100 plus people including many politicos. She is now tested positive and many politicos have gone into self quarantine. But we do not know how many more might have been impacted.

@JudyEv Police has filed an FIR (First Information Report) against her in the current case for misleading. I saw a news on the TV. Her and her father's versions were very different. It becomes in these times to get to the whole truth. Yet it seems she did erred. And those who attended her function as well.
