Report from yesterday's visit to the grocery store

After getting my SUV smog checked yesterday, I stopped at Safeway to get some eggs and bacon (if available) and to see how well-stocked the shelves were overall.
There were plenty of eggs, a dwindling but present supply of bacon, and plenty of milk. I also noticed plenty of hot dogs, and of course, alcoholic beverages, including beer. Again (as on a previous visit) I noticed very little paper towel, but some toilet paper.
How are grocery stores doing in your area?

The area that I noticed lacking the most, was the fabric area at Walmart. Wirh all the masks being made.

@JohnRoberts Interesting. This is a good time to come up with arts and crafts projects you can do at home.

And stupid states like mine ordered craft stores like Michael's, Hobby Lobby etc where you can get materials closed as non-essential.

Some are still out of basic items; but we are stocked up now in all areas and are good for a while.

@TheHorse TP, paper towels, wet wipes, soup (lots of it), Ramen noodles (to go into the soup), yogurt, and tons of other stuff that's not necessary but my food hoarder husband feels is necessary to survive. The pantry MUST be full or he's not happy.

Well, it's easier to tell you what is still lacking.
Pasta and pasta sauces aren't there, neither are soups. Macaroni and cheese seems to be clawing it's way back to the shelves though.
The meat department seems to be full up with the exception of cubed steak. There were some rolls of toilet paper on the shelf but not many, no paper towels. I didn't pay attention to the disinfectant wipes section, but the dish soap seems to be getting back on the shelves too.

@TheHorse I don't usually get it either, but I've been wanting to make pepper steak and it's better with that kind of meat. I'll probably just relent and tenderize some myself.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Sounds like a plan. Do you have one of those tenderizer hammer thingies?

It was looking better when I went last week. But the meat might start disappearing with some of the plants having to shut down because of the virus.

It really depends on where you go. Food Lion isn't coping too well, but Walmart was well stocked. I am gonna briefly hit Publix today, so I will compare.

My yesterday morning included a trip to Costco . . . I have been avoiding that place all this time . . . but it wasn't too bad (it was not crazy lined like last month). They had pretty much everything, and heaps of TP, but no paper towels.

@TheHorse I was thinking maybe because people are doing extra cleaning now. When I was a kid, my mom did the cleaning with rags and dish cloth . . . people weren't using up paper towels like they do now. So that's what we've been doing . . . using kitchen towels and just tossing them in the laundry at the end of the day - less need for paper towels. I don't know if you'd want to wipe your butt with kitchen towels though.

@TheHorse I discovered they are pretty well stocked. Nothing we were looking for was unavailable. According to Hubby. He went in alone.
I went into Wal-Mart. I was very unhappy with other shoppers coming so close to me. The self pay kiosks are too close together.
I was happier at the bank where they only let people in one by one, as others exited. And they asked each person about symptoms, exposure and travel.

It's still not complete but manageable.

Paper products still low, and I feel like a queen for having scored a bottle of hand sanitizer. Other than that, pretty well stocked.

I finally scored some bounty but no toilet paper yet. Mostly empty shelves but when it appears it is not in the brand I use or others I'd consider. And I can't find any soap either.
