I’m a Forgetful Idiot

Yes, I am. A while ago I wrote how the key that always remains in the lock to our curio cabinet was gone. We have our decorator hunting for another one. The curio cabinet can not be opened without that key. Our next plan of action would be to hire a locksmith, but that would have to wait until the virus is long gone. I even went so far as to ask if one of my grandkids “borrowed” it, but my granddaughter informed me that neither she nor her brother played with it when they visited last month. I opened the door to our bar to get something yesterday, and what was staring me in the face hanging on a hook in a door? The KEY! Only I could have put it there. I’m the culprit and the forgetful idiot. Why didn’t my husband notice it all the times he opened that bar door to make me a Friday date night cocktail? We had a laugh of pure relief!

I still can not believe I did that. I truly am happy that it's found and back where it should have been all this time.

@CarolDM And I'm glad that I didn't have a chat with my sweet, honest, and innocent grandson about it.

Well, the nice thing is that the key is found and is now in good hands, and no locksmith is needed.

@DianneN I'm surprised it's not a standardized key that fits all the curio cabinets that the brand manufactures. But, like you said, you found the key so all is good now.

And the decorator still couldn't locate another key for us! It's such a huge relief to have found it, finally.

That it's not something new. One time I was looking for my eye glasses only to find out it is in my head.

You're just like all the rest of us, we misplace keys at times:) I was getting ready to head out, for my college class in Oscoda. Where were my car keys? Inside the refrigerator, of course!

Thank God the key appeared! I read about that the other day! It happens all the time that one thinks something is missing and all of a sudden it is right in in front of one's face.

What I can't understand is how and why I took it out of its lock and put it elsewhere. I'm truly losing my mind. But thanks! I'm so relieved it's back in its spot.

@DianneN I think that you were thinking of your son's children getting the key to play with it and you took it and place it where it was found. Hope if it is moved again, you'll remember where you place it. Haha

I was wondering if you ever found that key . . . well I'm glad you did! So now you will have to super glue that darn key onto the curio cabinet lock .

At least you found it. I wouldn't worry though. I've done that before. Forget where things are. Or have things mysteriously disappear, then reappear in the places I thought they were before. I'm glad you guys found it.

@DianneN Of course you're not alone. One of the times it happened to me, was in high school. A floppy disc I was using for homework, seemed to disappear, just when I needed it. I later found it when I no longer needed it. ah, the days of floppy discs. I'm glad everything's on the cloud now.

I wouldn't call you an idiot, you hung it in an unusual place and because it was unusual you forgot. It could happen to anyone but I would think that from now on you look in all nooks and crannies just to keep familiar with everything.

I blame him entirely! This morning I poured (fresh) coffee grinds (or whatever they're called before you use them) directly into my cup. Why? Because I've been finishing up the "Instant" I brought back from Montana. Senior moment? Or "habit moment"?

@DianneN I ran out of instant but kept doing what I had been doing. Heh. I corrected my error. Some instant coffees are tolerable. Especially if you're in the snow in Montana and want to get things done quickly. But I haven't written that post yet.

Maybe he didn't realize it's the key. This is funny but what's funnier is when you are holding the keys in your hand but are looking for them and get frustrated you can't find them.
