Bad Things Come in Threes

I wasn’t here today due to bad things happening. I’m drained now and heading to bed.
First, my grandson needed stitches on his index finger from cutting his finger accidentally with a wood carving knife. He will be fine. I spent all morning on the phone with him and his parents.
Next, my best friend’s mother passed away. She was 92. I spent half the day on the phone trying to comfort her.
The third bad thing was a text I received. Our friend the playwright, Israel Horovitz, who lived on our floor in Florida, passed away last month. I’ve been talking with his wife at their home in New York City, where he passed away from cancer. His son, Adam from the Beastie Boys, was with him and their other children. I’m glad, because they were not on speaking terms.
Hopefully, I will have time to catch up with you on my tomorrow.

This is a lot to deal with and I'm sorry to hear about your friend the playwright. I know you talked about him often.
I'm sure your best friend appreciated your comfort with the passing of her mom.
At least your grandson will heal from his injury even though it must hurt. I shudder thinking of him getting stitches.

Thanks so much. We loved the playwright and nothing will be the same without him.
I knew my friend's mother very well. We've spent time with each other quite a bit over the years. I'm worried about my friend, because she is an only child and only has her mother's elderly brother now. No children either, but a loving husband.
My grandson has been a trooper through this, but I shudder, too.

That was some day you had. Hopefully, tomorrow will be a better day.
It is sad that your best friend’s mother passed away but she lived a long life. That is impressive.

It was bad news phone call after phone call. I spoke to my friends today and am glad I did. The are basket cases and needed a should to lean on - so to speak.
Yes, she did live a long life. My poor mother passed away at 62. It hurts no matter the age.

@DianneN It's tough to comfort people in pain. We run out of words to console them. But we have to.. They need us in these times. Stay strong
