I went out grocery shopping with my husband. Nothing special except that he ran into an old pal from high school and they chitchatted for a while. Strange, I thought because we were all wearing masks but Bert, the old pal from high school, could still recognize my husband. I wouldn’t know who’s who especially people I haven’t met for a long time by just looking at their eyes. Well, I went home with the right husband. (Please refer to the photo.) Photo not mine.

I don't usually have any trouble recognizing people I know and will usually recognize someone I've only met once since we started wearing masks all the time. Have you ever noticed that in photos where people don't want to be recognized they put a bar across the eyes? They do that because the eyes are the most easily recognizable part of a person's face.

@sol_cee I have "lasered" eyes I had laser surgery because of glaucoma, but I have a very good facial recognition, the eyes are the most important part of our face, look at the eyes and you cannot miss a person.

Between us, I think people in my city wear masks not because they’re afraid of the virus. They’re more afraid of the policemen roaming around reprimanding those who aren’t

@sol_cee It's the same just about everywhere. You have a few who feel that masks actually do something. And, when I talk to those people I just want to roll my eyes because they obviously don't understand... viruses don't pick and chose what droplets they adhear to. But, we've been given empty threats (and in some states real ones), for not wearing masks or social distancing. Funny enough, (unless you're California) Police have better things to do than to stop a person and report or ticket them for not wearing a mask.

@sol_cee I sometimes ignore it and continue to walk. It is not because of being snobbish. Because they need to do things outside.

You just make me laugh. It reminded me of my experience but without a mask. It was winter and freezing cold. I went with my husband to the Christmas market holding hands. Then I saw something that caught my eyes and got my hands off from my husband's hand. I was just beside him so as my hands were cold again, I wrapped his hand to mine again and when I looked up to him, it was another man.. My husband was laughing behind that man seeing me. What an embarrassment.

I think it's a bit hard to recognize people you knew if you haven't see them for long. That happen a lot to me during this time, I was not able to recognize them but they can recognize me.

That's funny. I can recognize some people even those I've not seen in a while. Did the two friends chat are a distance? That seems to be the hardest thing for most people.

@sol_cee that's good they enjoyed catching up. Here people forget about social distancing themselves when seeing someone they've not seen in a very long time.

That makes sense. I once saw someone I thought was a colleague but I wasn’t sure so I looked for that big mole on her left arm to confirm it was her and I couldn’t find any. Unless she laser removed it

I have seen this meme . . . one friend said she wished she came home with the wrong husband - eh, but that's another story. By now I think I could recognize people even with the mask . . . you can tell by their eyes/hair/body/clothes. Knowing this, I try to dress differently - then run in and out of stores as fast as I can . . . I don't want to be stopped to chat (which is how it was before the pandemic).
