We made enough money today for a trip to Ireland

We have a bore on our property. And we have a licence which allows us to pump 19,500 kilolitres of water from an underground aquifer. This is a huge amount of water and was enough to water an orchard which was established here before we bought the property. Unfortunately, nematodes destroyed the trees and they had all gone by the time we arrived. Now we use the water for the garden and animal troughs. We also automatically water an area of grass where people used to sit when we had our outdoor music concerts. We also watered an avenue of young trees until they got established. There have been ongoing issues with the authorities because we're not using enough water. This is pretty ridiculous seeing how all the talk is of water wastage and how we all need to be cutting back on our use. Now, we’ve signed up to sell 9,000 kilolitres to an orchardist. It means he can now take 9,000 more kilolitres from his bore while we can take that much less. Hopefully, we can sell another similar amount at some stage in the future. The money we get should be enough to pay for another trip to Ireland to see our son so we see it as a real bonus. Photo is of the grass in front of the Music Shack where the concerts were held.

I had to read twice... you had an issue because you do not use enough water, this is really ridiculous considering how precious the water is. I am glad you could sign such a great deal to sell the water... I hope that soon you will be allowed to travel to Ireland again.

It is really stupid that we are being forced to use this water when we are quite happy to have a licence for less kilolitres. We were told we'd have to give up our licence and get a new one. When we agreed to this, they said they weren't issuing any new licences. It's just really stupid.

@JudyEv This is really a silly thing, I often wonder about some stupid bureaucratic decisions.

@LadyDuck We did 'put one over them' as we say here when we trick someone. I'll write about it.

You should pop into Manchester next time you go to Ireland. I can tell Vince everything you write about him here and you can tell Mrs. WorDazza everything I write about her.

How weird receiving complaint for not using enough water. Usually it's the other way around.

That's for sure but we didn't want to make a fuss in case they stopped using water altogether.

Glad that you can sell your surplus water to make money ! Not sure if the bore on your property is understood to be a well.It is the first time that I see your Music Shack under the thick leafy shade.

It's not really a well. It's just a long pipe that does down into the aquifer. There is a pump at ground level to pump the water where it's needed.

This sounds like a real benefit to the neighbouring orchard owners as well as to yourselves. I hope that you will be able to put that travel money to good use soon enough.

It is a windfall really. We could afford to anyway really but it's not something you can continue doing forever.

@judyev Now all you need to do is sort out COVID and you’ll be all set. Ireland currently has the worst rate of COVID in the entire world, and that’s official.

It could be that the authorities want to make use of the resources for good reason. The good thing is that you have enough money for the travel.

Making us use the water isn't a good reason. They'd be better off to give it to someone who can grow crops with it.
