Would The Chance Of Winning A Billion Dollars Make You Buy A Lottery Ticket

I was just watching this short video about the possibility of winning a billion dollars in a lottery. Of course, everybody is rushing to buy their ticket which makes the prize grows obviously. But the chances are not any better of winning, so why people spend so much money for this? I don't know, do you? https://www.cbsnews.com/video/mega-millions-jackpot-jumps-to-1-billion/

I’d buy one if they were cheap and could be bought near us.

Me too. And if there are some consolation prizes then it is even better.

I do buy lottery tickets once in a while but the "lure" of winning BIG MONEY is not what motivates me

I buy "lotto" tickets, the prize is not so high, but you can win also if you only guess 3 out of the 6 numbers and I win time by time.

We bought 4 tickets and didn't get a single number on either one. I saw this morning the winning ticket was sold in Michigan!

Buying a lottery ticket just for the prize isn't our thing. We buy lottery tickets if they are being sold to make a charitable donation, of course the prizes are alot smaller, but the ticket sales go to a good cause.

If you do it just for fun, which is why I do it, and you can afford the ticket...why not? Someone HAS to win, and even if the odds are 1 in 320 million to win the big one... For $2 I will take that chance. In fact, somebody DID win the $1 billion. One winner in Michigan in last night's drawing. The only thing that winner can say is that had they not had a ticket... It would not have been them who got the loot.

AS long as some people do not spend the money on those tickets from the "grocery money" and have their families go hungry,

@marlina I hardly think ANYONE does that honestly. Those same people would spend $1.50 on a 20 ounce bottle of Coke sitting right next to a $1.50 2-liter bottle of it.

It wouldn't convince me. I used to buy tickets in my home country, I won small amounts a few times, but I gave up. I prefer to work and earn money than to count on luck. Although recently I got a surprise award in one of the research panels, it was also quite a small amount.

@marlina Lots of reason like gambling is Satan's handiwork, greed, laziness, addictive and make us forgot about God.

I would buy a lottery ticket just for the dream. I don't think I'd really expect to win but then again someone always does (eventually)

@marlina I'm not lucky so I rarely buy lottery tickets, I have a friend who spends lots of money on tickets (like your sister) and wins occasionally. Of course we only hear about the winning tickets and never the losing ones

I usually buy a ticket when the jackpot becomes huge. After all, if your not in it you can't win it... I think people buy because they like to dream they could be that one chance in a million. At least I do.

@marlina Not really. A few bucks every so often is not a big deal. Even though your chance of winning is like finding a needle in a haystack. And eventually someone does win. Who knows maybe I'll have a miracle ticket someday and if not, that's the way the cookie crumbles

@marlina. YES... For example one tickets cost of 2 dollars, and everyday we buy .do think in one year how much the cost of tickets..it's really a big money if we earn it. Lucky if we win.but if not it's really a regrets.. So I agree to you.

I don't play the lottery but I'm not opposed to it per se. I would be more likely to buy a scratch off than something that I'd very likely never win.
