We've finished installing a standpipe

Over the last few days, we’re been putting in a standpipe down in our paddock.
I showed you the ‘before’ photo a few days ago. It’s the same photo as in the top left corner of the collage. We had to dig up a pipe and insert a T-piece to take a standpipe. We finished putting in the standpipe today. The white PVC pipe is to make it clearly visible so we, and others, don't run into it.
If we have a bushfire, we’ll be able to fill the fire unit’s water tanks from this outlet.
The water comes from our bore which is activated from within the big shed. If the power goes off, we’ll have to drive up to the rainwater tank up at the house and fill from that.
Now we just need to make a couple of modifications to the unit. We want to have a place to hold extra fuel for starters. That might be tomorrow’s job.

The tap is in our own paddock so it's just a matter of making sure we can see it. Unless we have more concerts, no-one else should come near it. The tyres in the bottom right are covering a valve affair that needs to be avoided too.

Yes, that's true. I suppose I get a bit obsessive about these things but now I'm keen to do more tidying up of branches and leaf litter once we are allowed to burn again. Our new unit will allow us to do a better job of clearing up around our house and sheds.

No one around me collects rainwater, I am not sure why no one does that but no one has a water tank.

@JudyEv I guess that must be the reason but still I have always thought catching water makes good sense.

@BelleStarr It went out of favour here, particularly in the cities but now some are putting tanks back in. Many house blocks now are too small for a tank of any size so it's pretty much a token gesture. When my mother eventually moved to town, she would water her ferns with rainwater as the town water was too brackish.

We had a few hiccups along the way but it's done now. We have to return a very expensive fitting but luckily we have the receipt so it shouldn't be a problem. There are so many different sizes when it comes to fittings for water pipes.

Quite the innovation. You did say that each new job completed creates the need to do more things.

I’m so happy that you’ve been able to prepare yourselves in the event of the “worst case scenario.” I’ll bet you have peace of mind, too,

It looks like the pipe is out in the middle of the paddock. If you put horses or cattle in there they will damage the pipe by using it as a 'scratching post'. Or am I not understanding something?
