I MIGHT Spring for a REAL Haircut This Weekend

I am yet undecided. Did I ever tell you I am cheap? Okay, okay. This is where all of you fine people step in and say, "No Porwest. Don't be so hard on yourself. You are not cheap. You are just very frugal." Anyone? Anyone? Is this thing on? When it comes to haircuts, probably about 75% of the time I use a clipper and do it myself. It generally turns out fine. But after a little while it gets to a point that no matter what I do what I basically have is a slightly kempt bird's nest. I just don't want to spend the $15-$20 on a haircut is what it comes down to. I can find other and better uses for that money in my humble opinion. But a slightly kempt bird's nest is about where I am again. And so, this weekend I MIGHT spring for a REAL haircut. I just think it is time and I think the wifey would wholeheartedly agree with me on that. It doesn't take that long and honestly it doesn't cost THAT much. What do you think? Break out the clipper again or just go to Great Clips and be done with it, and at least have a nice haircut for a little while again? BTW, the picture is not of my kempt bird's nest. lol

Thanks. Much appreciated. That said, I can usually do a pretty good job on my own. Sometimes I wish I could just shave my head and start all over, but I don't have that kind of head. I look ridiculous. lol

Can your wife do your hair for you? During the height of the pandemic my mom did my dad's hair. She is not a professional but does a good job. And she cut her (male) friend's hair as well.

@porwest I'd be scared to do it as well. I once tried to give my barbie doll a haircut and she ended up with a giant bald spot in the middle of her head. Granted I was a kid when that happened.

Wifey is afraid to do it. She does help me to do some "trimming" and "shaping" from time to time. But she is always afraid. It's not like I will beat her if she screws something up. lol

Go ahead and get one. As you say you can keep it trimmed in between. I go every 2-3 months and my friend charges me $10 for a trim. I hope you'll do a follow up post with a picture

Maybe I will just break down and do it. I think the last real haircut was about 4 or 5 months ago.

I guess what it boils down to for me is there are some things I can't do like layer it, and trim the back better and other things, so one real haircut between 3 or 4 clipper ones seems to get things back into order a bit.

Hubby cuts his own hair . . . but he cuts his thinned hair super short - easy peasy for him apparently - and he's done it for years. That being said, it'll be worth that price to go have it done. No trying to figure out how to do it, it's faster, no clean up . . . and you might end up having a nice conversation with whomever cuts it for you.

My late husband always cut his own hair when we lived in Latvia he cut it really short in the spring and summer and then let it grow out in the autumn and winter he had very thick hair that grew quite long quickly, It depends on how good you are on cutting or clipping your own hair,

I guess it depends on how bad it really is. If the wifey would be happier and you can ask her then bite the bullet. I need mine done too but I'm not worried about the money I don't want a cold neck yet if winter stays a bit longer around here. I usually get it done in April but might go for March this year we'll see. I just cut my bangs mostly. But the whole thing needs it.

I've done the myself clipper cut. It turns out ok, but hard to get at certain spots. And getting it even lengths is challenging. I did it a couple of times during the salon shutdown during Covid. But I'd rather let the stylist do it. No messy hair to pick up, she does a better job and free conversation
