An impressive farm entry

This morning, we took a trailerload of tyres out to a farm. The farmer is using tyres to fill a gully in an effort to stop erosion. He was to meet us at his gate to take us to the gully. We arranged a time but had to stop at a red light at some roadworks. As we pulled up, Vince’s phone rang to say he was due at a medical appointment. He had thought the appointment was in the afternoon but had got it wrong. He had to pull off the road to take the call and we missed another two sequences of red and green lights. However, he was able to talk to his doctor over the phone and now doesn’t have to go in. What’s more, the doctor sent a prescription to Vince’s phone. Now all he has to do is take the phone to the chemist to get the tablets. Maybe this is commonplace to some but we were pretty impressed. The tyre guy didn’t mind that we were a bit late. After all, he’s getting the tyres delivered and for free so it’s good he didn’t complain. But don’t you love the sign on their farm gate? The designs to the right of the wording are all done with mosaic tiles. 'Honky nuts' is another name for gumnuts and the birds are red-tailed cockatoos which are an endangered species. I was really impressed with the sign.

Beautiful mosaics. I'm very impressed. I don't know about in Australia, but in the US honky is a slang term for a white person. So honky nuts would be the scrotum of a white male! haha

I never knew that. So what does 'honky-tonk' mean?

@Fleura They talk of honky-tonk bars and pianos. It seems it's where country music is the main entertainment. I used to say a piano was 'honky-tonk' if it was a bit rattly and not well-maintained or well-tuned. Wikipedia doesn't know how the term came into being.

Someone else said the term was offensive in the US but 'honky' is never used in that context here. Maybe I should tell the guy if we go there again. He was South African.

@DaddyEvil They did. I guess it was the wife but I don't know that. If it was, she would get pleasure from it every time she drove in and out of the place.

On one occasion, the GP also emailed/sent the prescription of our daughter to her pharmacy of choice which was located in the supermarket nearby. On another occasion, my prescription was also emailed to my daughter.

@JudyEv Yes, it's great indeed. It lessens the hassle of going to your GP unless there is really the need to see him/her. Repeat prescriptions are often done that way too.

Nice entrance, and nice that you were able to get your prescription taken care of in the way that you did. Yep, pretty commonplace here.

@porwest They were used for holding the soil on the bank near our big shed but they are a fire hazard there. We're going to peg netting down over the area instead and let the grass grow through it. I wrote about them here: https://www.mylot.com/post/3430048/serendipity-strikes-again

@JudyEv I am assuming the tires were just lying around and taking up space, so it was probably nice to get rid of them.

That's really impressive. Quite a bright bird. Sad that it's endangered. Good for Vince and it saves the time to visit doctor. Here too they have started doing that since pandemic to avoid overcrowding at hospital and clinics. So good that the old tyres are getting used for something good

I did consult my doctor on phone several times and he prescribed the medicine on what's app. It is convenient but not always possible. For some other complain he suggested I drop in to his consultancy. It is nice of you to deliver the tyres free of cost to the party. You should have at least taken some delivery charges. Fuel is so expensive now.

@JudyEv Oh is one of you a 'Good'? We have been revisiting 'The Good Life' - old BBC sitcom from the 1970s - did you ever see that? The Goods' venture into self-sufficiency in Surbiton.

If I have a phone or computer appointment, my doctor calls in my prescriptions to the pharmacy. Vince was lucky that he didn't have to see the doctor in person. I like the mosaic tiles. What are gumnuts?

Gumnuts are the nuts of eucalyptus trees although they are not always exactly the same shape as those under the farm name on the sign.

Win win situation, actually win win win. You got space giving your old tires to the farmer, the farmer gets what he needs and your husband got what he needed too. Great!
