Life is a Maze, Game of Snake and Ladder

Unity in Diversity

I feel blessed to be here as another day is never assured. Having gone through youth, working and adult life, I feel nothing prepares us for the vicissitudes of life and what is in store around the corner. We are always in for surprises and some we are not prepared for. Most plod on while a few take the bull by the horns. Whether we like it or not, we cannot take our eyes off the ball. I recall my earliest days when I was a few years old wondering why was I here for. Later, how to make a living, support a family and remain useful. That has not changed much though I am retired now. Now not only health issues but also technology keeps us on the edge. And the uninvited guests like the present pandemic. I think they are inbuilt for us to make course corrections. In my life, when I got complacent, I was given nudges, some testing my mettle, to re-calibrate and blaze a new trail even. I feel humanity as a whole will also have to face similar challenges from time to time. More than any other species we have a say in our future as scientific advancement does not lead to a more wisdom filled life. Progress has to be inclusive to better the environment not only for us. We are reaping what we have sown as the law of cause and effect never fails to prove itself. Our lifestyle defines how we are placed in terms of fulfillment we get out of life. It looks like we have been pulled down and our wings clipped. The old carefree lifestyle has taken a beating. Let us be thankful for the ladders to climb out of the present morass with a firmer foundation based on wisdom gleaned from our experiences. Unity in diversity is the name of the game and that is the firm foundation for our future. We swim or sink together is the writing on the wall. The ordinary citizens have to assert on this score and our leaders should get this message loud and clear. Should we not leave a better world for our future generations? The last year has been a difficult year for all of us. Let's take this like a life lesson, a difficult experience that must not stop us, but push us to do better to build a better world for the future generations.

Yes, it was an eye-opener with forced time given us to reflect on our lives. We should not waste any crisis by not learning from it and then forge ahead with renewed vigor.

@Shiva49 I hope that humans learn from this experience. We must be ready to help each other and not fight.

I just went off I would not expect some people to care. I do laugh how they say the other side does what they do. It makes me laugh. I more or less told them you do not get to say that because its what you guys did and then you defended it. This guys are pieces of crap to the highest of levels.

Yes, some just do not care at all and get away with murder. Life has to start again from a base as this pandemic has laid us low but has given time for reflection. I do not know how far we can get back to normal life but we need to ponder and unite with combined wisdom to live a fulfilling life. Hope we are equal to meet the challenges.

@crossbones27 It is not going to be easy with a few despotic big powers with a single view out to take advantage.

Unity in Diversity is a beautiful concept, a beautiful philosophy, a beautiful way to think and live. However, those who wield the power politically, religiously and commercially do not subscribe to such way of thinking. If one is not with them then they are viewed as enemies to be conquered or their lives are made very difficult. Such has been history, such is reality today and nothing will change tomorrow.

Though the concept of unity in diversity gives us the best returns in terms of peaceful and fulfilling life, our ego and selfishness come in the way. Then our leaders flex their muscles to gain attention and hoodwink others. Birds of the same feather flock together, but they leave others in peace. It is time to learn from other species how to coexist In our daily lives. An India born woman played a key role in the successful landing of Perseverance on Mars yesterday and that shows talent is not restricted in terms of race, geography, gender etc. All created divisions are short term and cannot hold a candle to the basic truth of creation - everything, everyone, is here for a purpose and has a role to play. When wisdom reigns we can lift ourselves to another level.
After a seven-month-long journey, NASA’s Perseverance Rover successfully touched down on the Red Planet on Feb. 18, 2021. Mission controllers at NASA's Jet P...

@DianneN What I had in mind was this virus was not a natural phenomena but from a lab. If we know the origins and the cause then we can be better prepared.

We are still reeling from it after a year and with no clue how and where it originated. I only wish the other supposed super power was more honest and cooperative in sharing information. Even dire happenings do not inspire compassion sadly.

Rivalry among major powers is intensifying, look at the conflict of US with Iran, Israel and gulf countries.China and India ........... Leaders see crisis as opportunities to advance their interests or hurt their rivals. Also, I strongly feel climate change will soon going to change things and countries will wipe off the map.

I was watching a youtube link on American poverty. There was this young orphan about 10 saying government is saying it is creating jobs for us, but I don't think there are jobs for us. Anxiety from that age? Why is it that parents are not realizing that they are stealing their moments of pleasure from their own kids?

That is indeed sad coming from a ten year old. But when they see the reality of a world with adults at each other's throats, unable to focus on their future, then that makes sense. We are making it tougher for them.

Yes, if these do not goad us to focus on our priorities I do not know what else is needed. Many countries and business sectors are still crippled.

Certainly this pandemic has affected the entire world. For once, we seem to be fighting a common enemy instead of fighting among ourselves.

Yes, I have experienced a bigger problem solves a lot of smaller ones that gnaw at us all the time. When we have no outside threat we are at each other's throats, but when our existence is threatened, we stick together only to get back to life as usual once our freedom and safety are restored. Hopefully, this phase is an eye-opener for us all to see the bigger picture of coexistence at a sustained level.

That's a thoughtfully well-written piece again, siva, giving us all much to ponder over. I wonder if the Dinosaurs thought like that too. "We must not damage the world with our heavy feet stomping around, and around, and killing and eating each other, willy-nilly." In some ways, we are more conscious than they were, and so we should behave better, but that's all that I see in the world still. Humans stomping around with heavy feet, rather than loving ones. (Nothing has changed. We are still dinosaurs, Humanosaurous Wrecks, wrecking everything that we come into contact with). Maybe the same thing will happen to us too. We might disappear from the Earth altogether one day too.

@Shiva49 The Bible claims that God does have favourites, but l couldn't agree with that, as perfect love could have no favourites. (In the Old Testament, the Jewish people were God's chosen race, or children, which sounds like a favourite race, son, or daughter, to me.)

@innertalks I do not think so either. Just like a mother cannot favor one child over the other; of course, there could be the rare exceptions. But if it is our creator, we are all his and his love is the real deal. Maybe, he gives us a long rope and it is up to us to use it wisely.

Thanks Steve, Whatever led to the extinction of the dinosaurs, I believe there are checks and balances in the whole scheme of things to see that creation is kept alive and kicking with or without us. We have to prove our worth or our innards will tug at us with "why are you here for?" And it is applicable to all species too as we also come with a time frame though we think we might exit only through our inability to coexist. We may think we are closer to our creator but is not an egoistic thought? He will not have any favorites and greater awareness should also bring with it greater responsibilities. Nothing can be taken for granted.
Researchers theorized that a piece of a comet, rather than an asteroid, hit Earth and caused the extinction of many species 66 million years ago.
