Question For Today- Has Your Pet Become Overweight?

I've been having trouble staying fit especially since the Covid 19 virus hit us with in home lockdowns and restrictions last year. It seems according to recent studies that pets have been struggling with weight problems too.
During this time people have been home with their dogs and cats more often than before the pandemic. This has caused those pets to pick up some bad human habits and a sedentary lifestyle.
One reason mentioned in this study for the weight gain are owners giving their pets too many sweets. Maybe that person is bored at home and feeding their cute little dog or cat a treat provides them with something extra to do.
Also, picking up a cat or little dog and carrying them around instead of letting them walk deprives them of needed exercise to remain fit and strong. Running up and down stairs or around the house helps burn those calories!
Or perhaps you and your pet are watching to many Netflix movies on the couch during your homebound time off. Which will make both of you lazier.
So, have any of you pet owners been guilty of overfeeding or too much lounging around with your pet on your lap? Are you keeping your pet in shape or have you slacked off during this pandemic?

My cats weigh just the right ammount. They don't need me to race around the house, they do it even when I wish they wouldn't. Even I have been trying to stay fit.

I see. So no extra attention from you for your kitty since being homebound during the pandemic. Although in Florida you have not been subject to lockdown restrictions like other states.
Sounds like those cats have their own exercise program, lol

@dgobucks226 Cats need to move freely, I pity those closed inside a home, they are like the animals in the zoos.

@LadyDuck Interesting analogy? Never thought providing shelter and food and a warm bed was treating my cat cruelly. But I see the point your making.

@dgobucks226 only kittens and the indoor is usually sweet and cuddly. Especially if they want treats. The outdoors would do that occasionally.

So, no extra attention like extra sweets or cuddles since you've been home more often? Cats who are able to run around definitely have an advantage over indoor cats.

My vet complained about Freckles having a weight issue, to which I replied, "At least you'll never be able to accuse me of cruelty or neglect!"

@dgobucks226 -- I gave her anything she darn well pleased. She ruled this roost! In fact, bittersweet story, the vet had her severely restricted to do tests on her, and when we found her kidneys were failing and we'd made "that awful decision" I let her have anything and everything she wanted. My mom went up to KFC and got her chicken strips every day for the last week of her life.

That is a cute photo. Right now I do not have a pet but when I had my cat Sid, he ate a lot but it all went to muscles. He always looked slim but when you went to pick him up he weighed a ton so it seemed,

Sounds like one sturdy cat. The kitty in the photo could take a lesson from Sid
I think many bored owners are sharing their snacks with their pets during virus lockdowns and both of them are gaining weight

@dgobucks226 No serious weight gain caused by COVID. I do have a little caused by my surgeries and lack of exercise because of them. I'm slowly getting rid of those excess pounds.

Yep, we just can't move around as much the older we get to burn off those calories and like you I've taken to napping quite a lot lately. Especially since this pandemic
Think I'm just bored staying at home so much and not seeing friends.

I see. I think some owners just overfeed their pets. And this Coronavirus adds to boredom and overeating.

We don't have pets anymore. I have not been eating more since the pandemic; and I have cut out snacking from my daily routine.

@dgobucks226 I am overweight; and I don't want to gain anymore; so I don't snack 99% of the time.

Your willpower is better than mine! What's your secret, lol.? With recent snowstorms in my area, I've been housebound even more resulting in more snacking for me

That cubby one may need a little more playtime
Owners have been guilty of cuddling with their pet more often than usual during the extra time they have been home due to lockdowns.
How about you?

Sounds good! I'm sure they appreciate those high quality meals. Have you been guilty of cuddling with your pet more often than usual when you were pandemic homebound?
