Our weather looks fairly nice for the next 10 days. I have been testing the new incubator to get used to changes in temperature and humidity and also keeping track of the weather. With the temperature in our house not steady, I did not want to start a run of eggs with freezing temperatures.
So today is the day that I will load the incubator up. I will be atempting to hatch 14 eggs on the first run. Our lows for the next ten days will all be in the 40's and 50's. I am hoping that we are done with lows in the 30's but we may get hit again. We will see.
Here's to Spring!

I wish you the best of luck on the eggs. And let's hope the nice spring weather continues. We had a cold dip-down last night into the 30s, but it looks like it's going to warm up slowly over the next week.

When my grandpa was raising his chicks (from the 1920s through the 1960s) he'd use a light bulb to keep them warm. I only got to see his installation one time but dad explained what he would do.
I hope all your eggs hatch healthy lil chicks and that most are hens. Dad said that most of the chicks grandpa got were roosters and of course back in those days most of them would end up on the dinner table.

Yep, I use the one with the red bulb for heat for the chicks. It does the job and as long as you have an area that it doesn't directly shine on for the chicks to go if they are hot, you are fine!
That is my biggest dread...all the roosters!

Good luck. I add an extra thermometer to mine. But I do allow for a little drop on it as it is at the very end of the incubator. Thus it slides away from the heat source as the eggs are rolled.

@kareng I bought one a few years ago as the incubator dont show the humidity that I have. It has a smaller piece I put in the incubator and the read out piece I have on my desk. Easy to look at that way.

Good luck with your eggs and hatching.
The weather here looks like it's going to be nice too. Is it possible that spring is really coming?

Good luck with the hatching. We will have temps in the 60s for about 3 days; and then the temps will fall into the 30s and 40s. 11 days until spring!

Hoping success with your hatchings. We're in a storm. Governor declared Hawaii a disaster area. It's bad. I prayed a lot, I'm ok.

@oahuwriter I'm so sorry to hear this. It's sad when there is destruction all around you.

Today turned sunny & warm, at last. But devastation came and Governor declared Hawaii a disaster area. Many need help. I'm ok, prayers answered, thanks to all who prayed...we got miracles. Thunder & lightening went away from neighborhood, no damages where I live that I know of. But others suffering & cleaning now, gofundme and other find raisers are many.

@DocAndersen We get a drop later this week. Will go down to low 40's. Not looking forward to that at all. It has been nice here with no heat on and no a/c on.

I like that, keeping tract of the weather the old fashioned way. In my case, the weather forecast is done by an app in my smart phone, telling me all about the current weather in my village from humidity, temperature ranges, storm alarm, etc.
