How much is your Pain Threshold?

Pain Threshold

We cannot escape reverses in life. How do you deal with them? What is your pain threshold/tolerance? I have had my share of them. Over time, I was more prepared as from my experiences I knew how to weather them. Time is a healer and also how we mentally tune ourselves to see through the crisis. Some are out of the blue like a health crisis. Others are more mundane but test us nevertheless. I use them also to test my mettle and to understand more about life in general and the people. We will know who our real friends are and so all happenings in life can be a learning curve. Some are laid low at the first sign of reverses while for others they are par for the course. While I do not look forward to crisis, I have patted myself after the event that I am made of sterner stuff than I thought I was. How do you deal with such uninvited visitors? I suck it up and go on, I have a very high tolerance for pain but like everyone else I don't enjoy it.

It does change with each phase of our life. However, I find refuge in - change is the only constant

We all have our own defenses to get over them. We have ways to deal with emotional pain by changing our approach but persistent physical pain is a real torture.

I do not like pain and I do not like to have problems, but I have a very good tolerance level for both.

Yes, I am like that too but when I am faced with issues I am, sort of, fully awake and cannot wait to put them behind asap

I continue to the best of my ability... I don't have a high tolerance for physical pain but accept it when I must.

@Shiva49 I think that's the way everyone is. Worry before hand and then just want it over and done with so life can go on.

Yes, like in the case of surgery I get worried before the event but once it is near I just want it to be over with. This vaccination was also an unknown quantity but when I went to get the first shot, what the hell, I am just one among many. Put it behind asap.

Yes, we need to endure pain and tackle it the best way we can. Thankfully, time heals a lot.

@Shiva49 Coursing through pain is simply putting one foot in front of the other.

That is rather rare I would say. I can just tolerate physical and emotional pain but I would want them behind me asap.

I usually just ignore pain and keep on doing what I do. Sometimes I will take a couple of aspirins.

Physical and bodily pains can be overcome but emotional and family issues are tougher as one has to find ways ourselves to get over them.

Nice to hear that. We have different ways to handle pain. I like to see it as part of living. Some tackle by griping about it too! Physical pain, like a toothache, is a real pain for me!

@rakski Yes, for emotional pain, attitude is the pain reliever and we tend to wallow in self-pity.

Yes, building resilience is the key. We all have it to some degrees but we have to up the ante at times and rise to the occasion.

Pain lets us know that we are alive, living in a mortal body, so it is of some use to us. It also lets us know when something in us needs fixing. It is a pain to suffer from pain, but if we manage it, and do not ignore it, it has served its purpose in our life for us then too.

@Shiva49 There are a few people who are having nasty reactions to the vaccine now too. We all wish that these things do not happen to us, as we all want to try to avoid as much pain, and as many problems, as possible, in our lives.

@innertalks Yes, it is as if we are stricken with the virus itself. And one here has been affected a second time in a year. And another's daughter is quite sick despite having taken the vaccine as its efficacy rate is 95%.

Yes Steve, running away from pain, playing hide and seek, could be the biggest downer in tackling the pain. It is said bad luck comes in threes but we can tackle them head-on than get defeated and succumb to them. This too shall pass is my way during such times. It is a new life after some horrific encounters. I heard one who barely escaped with life after Covid-19 virus While most had only limited issues, he went through a roller coaster ride of emotions and at times thought the end was nigh. Not being able to see human faces while under treatment was the pits.
