Arbor Lodge, and Runza

Nebraska City, where we went, is the home of Arbor Day, a holiday that promotes the planting of trees. It is where my son-in-law grew up. Most of his family is still there. We went to Arbor Lodge Park and watched the kiddos burn off a lot of energy this afternoon. Lots of beautiful old trees there. For lunch we went to a Runza fast food restaurant. Runza is a hot stuffed sandwich and these were very good. Usually have ground beef, cabbage, onions, cheese inside. In Kansas a similar dish is called a Bierock. In other places there are other hot hand sandwiches. It is actually bed time, and I will like sleeping in my own bed. Hotel beds just are not as comfy as home. I will finish with my notifications and put up some more posts tomorrow. Tonight I am ready for bed.

There is nothing quite like your own bed.

I also love my bed. The only bed that I truly enjoyed sleeping in and the most comfortable hotel ever was one from Hennan resorts. They got the most comfortable bed and pillows.

The pillows were pretty nice, I think they were feather pillows.

I love trees, not that we have many here but I have been trying to grow some on my lot. I have never heard of Runza before, now I'll have to look that up and maybe I can make one using a tortilla .... that's what I have right now so that's what I'll have to use as the bread part.

I have a Runza Casserole recipe that uses the refrigerated crescent rolls. Son-in-law says he has made them from scratch with a home made roll dough but it just is not the same.

Hotel beds are never good beds, my bed is what I really missed when I traveled.

@GardenGerty Not to mention how badly the bedsheets are arranged all the time.

I first encountered a runza at a food festival. Tasty. I think it was a Hutterite charity gathering. A runza restaurant would be amazing. Baklava lurking there somewhere?

I have had Baklava at a Greek Orthodox fundraiser in Oklahoma City. All these yummy foods.

Runza? Do you get the runs if you eat too many?

Nope, the cheese prevents that.

They have some that are hundreds of years old. When the people first came there it was pretty barren and so they planted trees and encouraged others to as well. My son-in-law grew up in the town and his 4H group would volunteer to clean up in the spring. I think he enjoyed showing his kids this place.

So glad yo had the time with your family. The sandwich's sound really good. Glad you got home and can rest in your own bed now. I bet your kitties were happy when you and your hubby go back. I know our girls are/were always happy when we returned home.

The big boys went out immediately but each of the other kitties had to have special "me" time when we got home.
