My heart feels heavy...

It's Sunday 5PM here as I post this. The day started with the excitement of the celebration of festival of colours Holi. Today is the first day called Holika Dahan that signifies the victory of good over evil. We have bonefire in the evening where people gather around and offer different delicacies and fresh produce to the holy fire. It's the symbolism of burning evil and bad in fire and having a fresh start. This year due to pandemic, we don't have any such celebration. Holi also officially marks the end of Spring. We all got up with this excitement of festival but then we received a terrible news on phone. My husband lost a very close cousin today morning at 5 AM. He was 58 and he had a liver transplant on 21 Feb. We remember him as a healthy and jolly fellow. He worked with Airport Authority of India at a senior post. Last year in June, he got infected with the virus and had a really bad symptoms. He was even hospitalized and was in ICU for two weeks. Post recovery, he developed complications with his lever and then by January he needed a liver transplant. No donor could be found and so his 26 year old daughter became the live donor. He was stable for some time post surgery but then he showed some vital fluctuations since this Monday and was in ICU again. His conditions kept fluctuating in last few days and today morning we received this terrible news. Here the virus claims another life in the post complications. Our heart feels heavy. We just pray for the family. He is survived by his wife and two daughters..26 and 23 years. Elder daughter who donated the liver for him got married in 2019. Both daughters are well settled with their jobs. I cried with my husband as soon as we got the news. In this pandemic situation we can't go to the family as they are in Mumbai which is the hotspot of virus at present and we have certain travel restrictions to that state. My husband's elder sister stays there and is with them in this hard time.My husband wanted to go and see him post his surgery but he advised him not to take risk in this pandemic situation. My husband has this guilt feeling of not meeting him. They shared a special bond. Somehow my heart feels very heavy and I am not very sure of my feelings.

I am very sorry for your husband cousin, he was still young. He is finally an indirect victim of Covid that will not be counted among Covid victims. I am really sorry for him and his family, he had a very good daughter who donated the liver for his Daddy. Please accept my sincere condolences.

@LadyDuck She is staying strong and supporting her mom. At least she is pretending to be strong. My husband's sister is with the family and she told us that she is staying strong and positive for her mother. She has got a wonderful husband. The boy is very sensible and is handling the situation well.

The virus leading to complications is what is disturbing I have heard about how it destroys internal organs and here is such a case. Sad for you and your husband as you cannot go there.

@allknowing Many of my family members got infected, some being frontline workers. And we have lost two elderly to it and two not so old including him have become indirect victims of the cruel virus We had quite a few cases in our apartment last year. My doctor friend and neighbours were one of them

@allknowing They did it. We have a corona support team here in apartment. I am also enrolled there to give food for infected families. This team deals with delivery of goods and essentials to our doorstep if the building is sealed.

You are right Dianne. It's the time to follow logic and sense more than heart and emotion. My husband is still hurting that he didn't see him in his last times. But that was a wise thing to do. I am praying for the ladies..his wife and two daughters. They are going through a turbulent times.

@arunima25 Yes, that girl would be so despondent after making such a sacrifice for her father.

Thanks Judy. Feeling bad for the young girl of 27 who became the live donor for her father. Wish he had few more years and that would have made her feel good about her decision to donate. Now she too has a compromised life for few years. Her husband was quite supportive throughout. Time will heal. They definitely need a lot of prayers.

It came as a terrible shock especially for the young girl of 27 who donated her livers part to save her dad. Even her life is compromised for few years. Wish that it was a success and that would have made her feel good about her decision. Keeping them in prayers. They badly need it

Oh, that's really sad news. If I understood correctly, did he need a liver transplant to get the virus?

He got the virus last year on job. It was just the beginning phase of pandemic. The virus left a damaging effect on his liver and he needed a liver transplant.

He became an indirect victim of this cruel virus. He will not add to the corona toll. I wonder how many such people would be there who became indirect victims of the virus.
