Unplanned, Planned Easter Dinner

So, today when I was at Aldi, they had spiral cut honey hams on sale for 85 cents per pound, so I picked one up and just told the wife, since we did not have any plans, I would just cook it tomorrow for dinner. It is a 9 lb ham so it cost me about $7.65. Earlier today my wife and my mom went over to my sister's to drop off some Easter stuff for the kids, and looks like their plans changed. So the wife brought up the ham and now it looks like we'll be having dinner tomorrow night at our place. lol So, of course, now we are trying to figure out all the sides we want and a day that would otherwise be leisurely is now going to be a get together. But we will have fun. Besides, we have this vacation to discuss in further detail. So, it will be a good time. I might pick up a 30 pack of Lite beer. Seems they like Lite a bit more than some of the other beers I keep on hand.

Ham and potato salad (and tons of other sides) was what we always had as a family at Easter. Good memories. You found a great deal.

Not nearly as good as the deal I got at Ruler about a month or so ago which is still in my freezer. I paid 39 cents per pound. But I have NEVER seen a deal like that, so that was definitely a fluke. I could have rotated and made that one tomorrow, but they take a couple of days to thaw so I will just make the one I got from Aldi today.

Why a 30 pack? Seems like a lot for one evening. Good thing you got a 9-pound ham instead of a much smaller one. No need to worry about the protein part of the dinner.

@porwest of course, it is always cheaper to buy in bulk.

A 30 pack will eventually get drank, and it doesn't go bad, and it is cheaper to buy it that way.

Well it's always nice when plans change and you get to see family. We were going to have a quiet day at home and cook dinner also but now were going to brunch at 11:15 but still may cook dinner later on but who knows.

@porwest lol. I'm going to brunch with my one sister and the kids and my dad. My other sister has plans with her fiancés family so we won't see her this year. But hopefully next year we will all be together again.

@porwest I choose to work on weekends because that gives me two full days to wash windows in the warmer months.

I sent my hubs to pick up the $.85 ham; and he bought the $1.89 ham. Didn't check the price. Sigh. Have a good Easter.

@LindaOHio Yeah, I am pretty much to the end of it too. Just have the bone with meat bits left on it. I will probably make a bean soup this weekend with it.

@MommyOfEli2013 lol. To me, while ham is definitely pork, it tastes nothing like pork. It has its own unique flavor due to the curing process.

@porwest Well it is not one of my favorites, but I am not the biggest fan of pork in general. But I don't hate it like fruits and veggies haha

We will not have a big dinner tomorrow. I do have ham on hand, but we are totally taking things easy this weekend.

Sometimes taking things easy is just what the doctor ordered, and usually always works out just fine.

I too have ham in the fridge and am deciding what sides to have with it. Will have to think of something and buy it today.

Hope it all turned out well and you had some good sides. I usually like to make a batch of scalloped potatoes for a side. We had something like that, but it was more like a cheesy potato dish. It was delicious though.

I guess we had our Easter dinner today. I cooked for our son, grandson Nathan, my husband, and a friend of Nathsn's. Meatballs in gravy, mashed potatoes, corn, fried green beans, Red Lobster biscuits, chocolate chip peanut butter cookies, and sweet tea. We'll probably go out to eat after church tomorrow. Enjoy your delicious meal and family!

They always turn out great, and I always prefer the spiral cut. Easier to serve and easier to eat. Perfect slices every time.
